News from John Foreman Here's the latest from author John Foreman: "Volume 5 of Fighter Command War Diaries went to the publishers about three weeks back, delayed due to a search for a particular photo that I considered vitalBranse Burbridge, 85 Sqn, the top night ace of the RAF. With index, it runs to around 480 pages, nearly 190 photos, and I think is the best of the series. It's certainly the best thing I've ever done.... Right now I'm working on a book chronicling the victories of the Luftwaffe nightfighter forcesaround 6,000 claimswhich I reckon is the closest anyone is likely to get to the complete listing."

Editor's pick Sometimes when we run across an interesting/unusual/informative book, especially an old and out-of-print one, we like to bring it to your attention. Here's one from not too long ago: Schenk, Peter. Invasion of England, 1940: The Planning of Operation Sealion. London: Conway, 1990 In a field of many books about Operation Sea Lion, this is far and away the best volume about the nitty-gritty of German preparations with very detailed information about naval vessels, loading schedules, transport routes, landing diagrams, reinforcement rates, etc. Many photos, maps, charts, and tables.

News from Steve Zaloga Here's the latest from well-known (and busy!) author Steve Zaloga: "I have quite a few titles completed for Osprey. They are starting a new series, partly on my instigation, called Battle Orders. The aim is to provide an economical reference for general military history readers on TO&Es, order of battle and basic tactical doctrine on major combat formations. It's designed to complement existing series like Campaigns, and the uniform and weapon series. My first is on US Armored Divisions in the ETO in 1944-45. It will be followed (in my case) by titles on other types of armor formations or other theaters. In the New Vanguard series, my next title out will be on the M18 "Hellcat" 76mm tank destroyer. I have four more titles in this series at the publisher, but they seem to be a bit conservative about premature announcements, so I will let that slide. In the Osprey Warriors series, they will be releasing my title US Tanker in NW Europe 1944-45 sometime early in 2004. Rather than look at this subject from the perspective of an enlisted man as is so often done, I decided to look at it from the perspective of a tactical commander instead, a tank battalion commander. I chose Creighton Abrams of the 37th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division as an obvious choice. In the Campaign series, the D-Day series will finally be completed with the release of my title on Utah beach early in 2004. I am also working on the follow-on to the Ardennes (1): St. Vith book with the companion title on Bastogne which will probably be out in late 2004. "In the Concord photo album series, they have just released my US Tank Battles in France 1944-45, which is a companion volume to the earlier titles on the Pacific and Germany. The volume on North Africa and Italy is already finished, but I'm not sure what the release date is at the moment. These are somewhat hard to find in the US, but they are carried by larger hobby distributors."
