This day in history Sixty-five years ago today, on 30 April 1941, Iraqi forces of Rashid Ali's anti-colonialist government besieged the RAF airbase at Habbaniya.
In memoriam John Kenneth Galbraitha member of the US Strategic Bombing Survey team that attempted to determine the effectiveness of the bomber offensive against Germany, and later in life a diplomat, economist, and authordied on 29 April in Massachussetts at the age of 97.
In memoriam USAAF Colonel James B. Swindala veteran of The Hump, the Berlin Airlift, and later JFK's Air Force One pilotdied on 25 April in Florida at the age of 88.

Delayed A Blue Water Navy, the second part of volume two of the official operational history of the Royal Canadian Navy from Vanwell Publishing, has been delayed until at least September. Likewise, volume three of Black Cross, Red Star from Eagle Editions has been delayed until at least July. Finally, the long-awaited seventh volume of Germany and the Second World War has been pushed back to next month by Oxford University Press.
NMP "Booklist issue 99" from Naval & Military Press showed up here a few days ago with a serious assortment of books from a wide variety of publishers, including titles published by NMP.
News from Italy Massimo Galuppo has been kind enough to inform us of the collaboration between A.G. Publishing of Bratislava, Slovakia and the Military Historical Center Cultural Association of Udine, Italy which includes (among other WWII-related items) an extensive series of Waffen-SS unit history/OB books, Kriegsgliederung der Waffen-SS, 1939-1945. This day in history Sixty-five years ago today, on 6 April 1941, as the Luftwaffe hammered Belgrade in Operation Punishment, German 2nd Army and 12th Army invaded Yugoslavia and Greece. At the same time, in the Western Desert the Afrika Korps reached Mechili, Derna, and Msus. Meanwhile, Allied forces accepted the formal surrender of Addis Ababa.
