IFIN BULLETIN IFIN #333: New video ready: "Aluminum Fluoride, G-Proteins and Altzheimer's Disease".

Dear All,

I am happy to inform you that I have completed the editing of the interview I conducted last May in Prague with Dr. Anna Strunecka. While this tape is a little technical in places, the overall thrust is loud and clear. Dr. Anna Strunecka has been teaching in the Physiology Department at King Charles University for over 30 years. She has over 300 publications to her name. Her speciality is the role of phosphate in biological systems, particulary phospholipids. Over the last 10 years she has been particularly interested in the interaction of fluoride (in the presence of trace amounts of aluminum) on G-proteins. G-proteins enable messages delivered to the OUTSIDE of the cell, to excite changes on the INSIDE. In particular, she is very concerned about the fact that aluminum fluoride (or fluoride in the presence of trace amounts of aluminum ) can trigger the production of cyclic AMP ( the cell's secondary messenger which leads to a cascade of events in the cell) WITHOUT the presence of the primary messenger ( e.g. most water soluble hormones). In other words aluminum fluoride complexes ( e.g. AlF4 -) can short circuit an important dividion of the normal messenger system of the body. Among many other ramifications this process might explain fluoride's impact on the thyroid gland. In 1991, a graduate student under Dr. Strunecka, published a thesis which showed that 1 millimolar sodium fluoride in the presence of 20 micromolar aluminum chloride completely disrupted the cytoskeleton of the red blood cell. Strunecka sees in this a model which could explain aluminum's ability to form neurofibrilar tangles in the brain's of patients with Altzheimer's disease. In other words aluminum fluoride ( the AlF4- ion looks to the cell like a phosphate ion) might well facilitate the interactions (and clumping together) of certain structural protein molecules. Despite the fact that Altzheimer's disease is increasing exponentially, Dr. Strunecka's warning about a possible connection with aluminum fluoride is being ignored by mainsream medical journals. Her review has been rejected - usually in less time than any real consideration could have been given to its merits by peer reviewers - by numerous journals like the BMJ, the Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine. A shortened version of her review ( co-author Jan Patocka) was accepted by the journal Fluoride, and a copy of this article will be included with the videotape. Adding considerably to these concerns is the work of Varner et al ( Brain Research, 784, 284-298, 1998) which showed that at 1 ppm fluoride, administered in drinking water for 52 weeks, either in the form of Aluminum fluoride or sodium fluoride, increased uptake of aluminum into rat brains and led to the formation of the beta amyloid plagues associated with Altzheimer's disease and other forms of senile dementia. Its it is urgent that Dr. Strunecka's warning get to as many people as possible. Hopefully, if enough people find out about this, the medical community can be shamed into taking this issue seriously. If Strunecka is correct the ramifications of fluoridation could be devastating.
