PRISONER

Poem by Thai Williams

Why does it always
Have to be this way
Fighting this feeling
Day after day

Waking up in the morning
It creeps into my soul
When the evening time comes
The effects have taken their toll

I'm a prisoner to this 'thing'
Always waiting there for me
It won't let me go
It won't set me free

Blinking my eyes
Looking in every hole
Please understand
It's something I can't control

Doctors call them 'tics'
The nerve ends aren't bridged
The motor signal stops short
And causes someone to twitch

Tourette Syndrome is the name
A disorder, they are sure
Years and years of research
Still they have no cure

So once again tomorrow
I'll fight the feeling again
And pray for the day
I'm back in control again
