What this is about.
This is an unending list created by many people, for use by everyone.
It was originally started in the mid-90's so that new pilots would appreciate
the depth and complexity of flying gliders and sailplanes, but it also
serves as a list of discussion points for those pilots who would like to
learn from others. On the numerous pages, there are helpful tips
and ideas which are the essence of helpful info to the soaring pilot.
The title of each section is listed on the Tips
Page
Why you need to read this.
It's important that no pilot operates in isolation. Don't be mislead
by exciting soaring stories you may hear which may contain half-truths.
Much of that hangar flying is helpful and exciting, but you need to sort
out fact from fiction, bravado from stupidity, ego from humility, skill
from luck, etc. With the proper knowledge, you will develop the confidence
which will allow you to have great success in soaring, and to do it safely.
As a result of acquired knowledge you develop an attitude which results
in success. It starts with the first intro lesson, and never ends. The
enjoyment you get from soaring will only cease if you fail to progress,
and that only happens if you stop increasing your knowledge. Read some
of these pages. They really do contain many truths (some people call
them nuggets of information), but you must accept the fact that the
writers are not liable for injury or loss sustained because you or someone
else attempted to use one, or some of these items in operating an aircraft.
These are not procedures. They are only points of discussion.
With each flight there are new frontiers, and it is more fun if we build on what is already known, and go from there. You are encouraged to submit Tips, Nuggets, Truths and Philosophies for addition to this list, but do try to be constructive, and be brief.
You may note that some of these "Truths, ideas, tips, nuggets, etc."
may appear repetitive, but
because words mean different thing to different people, some truths
are phrased in various ways. Please feel free to critique. I'd rather have
negative feedback than no feedback at all!
