An abalone diver who died off the Sonoma Coast near Timber Cove has been identified as an Orange County man, the coroner's office said Wednesday.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the man, Kwan Hoon Byun of La Habra, drowned, Sonoma County Sheriff's Capt. Rich Sweeting said.
A bystander pulled Kwan, 59, ashore Tuesday afternoon after his wife saw him floating in the water from shore, authorities said.
Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
A Coast Guard helicopter recovered his body from the beach.
Toxicology results are pending, and the final autopsy report will not be available for several weeks, authorities said.
Another diver, a San Jose man, died Monday off the Mendocino Coast's Van Damme State Park. His body was recovered Tuesday.
