I'm involved, to one degree or another, in the following real world dive clubs. For the sake of accuracy, however, they're not all "dive" clubs nor are they all "clubs". But they do tie into my dive oriented activities so... "Dive Clubs" seemed as succinct a label as I've been able to come up with for this particular page.

Central California Council of Dive Clubs (CenCal)

This is a political umbrella organization for dive clubs of central and northern California. They've been around long enough and involved enough to be recognized by the political bodies and bureacratic agencies at that state and federal level. Anybody who likes diving central or northern California would do well to support this organization's efforts through annual membership.

JAWS (Just Add Water, Sonoma) Dive Club

Friends and acquaintances on the north coast include some members of this uniquely named dive club. I'm not a member but I do occasionally participate in some of their boat trips and multi-day adventures.

Redwood Empire Divers

This is "my" dive club in that it's the first club I joined, the first (and only) dive club I've served as President and Newsletter Editor. Right now, I'm enjoying being just "one of the members."

San Francisco Reef Divers

I joined the San Francisco Reef Divers in 1998 after having gotten to know a couple of their members during the SB463 legislative process. They put together great club outtings: day trips on central California dive boats, multi-day trips on southern California dive boats, kayak camping trips, ski trips in the winter, and so on.

SeaWatch

SeaWatch sprang out of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre of Manta Rays at San Benedicto Island in 1994. This tragic story led to the formation of SeaWatch and its successful effort to have the waters within 1 mile of the islands of Mexico's Revillagigedos Archipelego put off limits to all commercial fishing.

Sonoma County Abalone Network

The Sonoma County Abalone Network is an organization I got involved with during the Van Howard Johnson poaching trials in 1995 and 1996. For the first 10 years of it's existence, I've was SCAN's Vice-President and, in 2005, took over from George Lawry as President.

Sub Ocean Safety

This organization is working to change the story of the Moskito Coast native divers. It's a hell of a story if you're not already aware of it.
