Having fought a cold all week, I decided it was the better part of valor to watch the action from the bluffs. It was pretty good action too. I watched a half dozen divers get pushed by current into a break zone at the base of the cliffs where 6' breakers were crashing on top of them. Two lost floats, three lost weight belts, and a missing fin later, all six made it to shore. One guy might need stitches for facial cuts and an older guy (which means older than me) got out unscathed due only to the grace of Neptune. The floats ended up in a current eddy about a 1/4 mile off shore. One of our party jumped in and retrieved them (the guy is an animal). The owner of the boogie board insisted on giving him $30 as a reward (though he would have preferred the board and the nice stuff attached to it). The owner of the retrieved ab float had already retired for the day (probably took his buddy to the hospital) so our guy ended up with a nice float. Then there's the extra fin retrieved by someone else from our party. All in all, a pretty mellow day for the first weekend day of ab season. |
