Kayak Diving |
|
Kayak diving is my favorite way to dive the north coast of California. It gives me easy access to most any dive site without long surface swims, exhaust fumes, or much in the way of post-dive maintenance. It does require some practice with paddle and equipment handling but, once the task loading is mastered, kayak diving is almost certainly the most relaxing way to spend a day on- and in-the-water. Even when conditions limit your in-the-water access, kayaking by itself is a very satisfying activity (I highly recommend Mike's Kayak Journal for taste of north coast on-the-water experiences). The following information is a compilation of opinions (gracefully limited to kayaking) I've reached after much trial and occasionally painful error. Take it with a grain of salt mixed heavily with a dose of common sense and you should be fine. I'd also recommend seeking out other sources of online information (checkout my links page under Kayak Diving) as well as giving serious consideration to getting some hands on training under supervision of a qualified kayak diving instructor. |
