Two Oakland men face up to three years in state prison
after they were convicted of conspiracy Tuesday for selling
abalone taken from the Sonoma Coast.
Kin Wah Gee, 43, and Kim Keung Gee, 44, were found
guilty following a jury trial in Sonoma County Superior Court
before Judge Elaine Watters.
Investigators from the state Department of Fish and Game
testified the brothers were part of a ring that recruited
divers to harvest abalone from Sonoma and Mendocino
counties.
They told undercover agents they could supply 200
pounds of abalone every week. State investigators
testified they followed members of the ring to Bay Area
businesses where they sold abalone on the black market
for up to $85 each.
Last month, another man, Duong A. Luu, 47, also of
Oakland pleaded guilty to the same charges. He will be
sentenced Oct. 2.
Last year, two others, Sau Van Pham and Chinpin Ou,
both of San Francisco, pleaded guilty to lesser charges in the
case.
Kim Keung Gee will be sentenced Oct. 8 and Kin Wah Gee
will be sentenced Oct. 17.
