Thanks to Sami Laine for the suggestion to tag this Web site as "Rocky Entries". Though I truly hate rocky entries when diving, the name works as a nice play on words. So be it.

So who am I? In partial measure, I'm a northern California resident (Sonoma County) active in the local SCUBA and freediving scene. Quite a bit of my freediving is done in "pursuit" of of abalone (though, these days, it often as not takes me an hour to get one, sometimes, two to take home). My SCUBA diving is usually oriented toward sightseeing with northern California dive conditions imposing an emphasis on macro life.

My diving "career" is into its 12th year with something north of 600 logged dives before I got tired of logging them. Considering the fact that most of my diving is one or two tanks a weekend, that's a lot of time spent at the coast. Though I did complete my Divemaster course (PADI DM89153) in 1994, I have only rarely worked with OW classes.

After a day of chasing lobster off Santa Cruz Island.

Whether freediving or on SCUBA, my preferred method of getting to/from dive sites is on one of my washdeck (aka, sit-on-top) kayaks. I have two Aquaterra Prisms plus a Tsunami X0 Crossover surf boats (pure paddle fun).

In recognition of the value the marine environment has in my life, I have been involved in varying degrees with a number of marine and diving related issues: the Marine Life Protection Act, California's Abalone Resource, Moskito Coast Lobster Divers, Sea Otters, Nearshore Rock Fish. I figure it's small payment for what I get in return.

Though I often dive the Monterey and Carmel areas, there are many Web sites with lots of information on diving that area. I'll leave central California diving information to those sites and stick to the area I frequent most: northern California diving. I hope you enjoy the result and find the information useful.

Other facets of my life related to diving include Bicycling , Dilbert, and Deb. In case you're interested.
