Linocuts are made by carving an image in a linoleum block. Ink is rolled on the block, paper placed on top, and pressure applied with a wooden spoon. What has been carved away is white in the image; what remains is black. An edition, or certain number of images, is printed, signed, & numbered (1/32, 2/32, 3/32, etc.). Then the block is "struck", ensuring that no more are made. |
