  1. What is National Access?

National Access is an additional service which allows customers to connect to Sonic.net's National Points-of-Presence. Any dial-up location outside of California is considered a National POP and requires the National Access service to use. Sonic.net has strategically located POP's in over 1,100 cities across the US.

National Access must be added to your account separately unless you have a Business Account. National Access is included with Business Accounts and doesn't require the additional service.

  2. How do I add National Access to my Sonic account?

Sonic.net provides an online tools page that allows you to order and manage your account services including National Access.

  3. How much does the National Access service cost?

The current cost of National Access is $3 per month. The costs of the services is prorated from the date that you sign up to the date of your next billing. The next billing will occur at the interval specified in your account preferences (generally customers are billed quarterly).

National Access is included with a Business Account and does not show up as an additional service on the account information..

  4. How do I configure my computer for National Access?

To configure your computer for National Access you must enter your username in your dialer as:

    username@sonic.net

It is important that @sonic.net be appended to the username for the service to authenticate you. Once you have made the username change you do not have to change it again. Sonic.net accepts this naming convention no matter where you dial from.

  5. Where can I find information on what cities and states are covered by National Access?

The recommended way to find a dial-up number in a city is to go to the POP Finder located at http://www.sonic.net/cgi-bin/pops.pl and enter the phone number you will be calling from. The POP Finder will then give you the best number to use from your location.

Please remember that Sonic.net is not responsible for long distance charges and to check with your operator to guarantee the call you make is not a toll one.
