How do I upload my pages and scripts to the Secure Web Server?
With an FTP program, ftp to ssl.sonic.net, login as yourself and use whatever password you have for the ssl server. In your home directory, the default directory you connect to, you have two links. One link to your web directory, web, and one link to your cgi-bin directory, cgi.
Go to the appropriate directory and upload your pages or scripts. You should only put the scripts that need to be secure and the pages that contain the forms for these scripts on your ssl account. The rest of your pages should be in your regular accounts web directory.
-
Do you have any scripts already installed?
We have the basic FormMail script installed, but if you want more advanced scripts you will have to put them in your cgi-bin directory.
-
What exactly will be secure if I use SSL?
The information from the user's browser when they fill out your form, will be encrypted before it is sent to the SSL server so it is secure while in transit. After that, the information is decrypted.
-
Will email from a form be secure from SSL?
No. The only information that SSL encrypts, is the information from the user's browser to the server. From there the information is unencrypted if you mail it to yourself or save it to a file, unless you use further encryption such as PGP.
