August 2008 I've been writing novels and short stories for a year and a half now, but I'm still an artist. With the current state of the economy, I've decided it's probably high time to apply sorcery and magic, too. Standard efforts just don't seem to make ends meet.
Things deteriorate and fail. It's entropy, the hypothetical tendency for all matter and energy in the universe to devolve into a state of inert uniformity... a polite way of saying Everything turns to crap. My digital camera is the latest victim, unless you want to count me, too. It's only five years old so I calculate it cost about $150 a year to possess it during its operational lifetime. I try telling myself that's not too bad, considering I don't have to buy film anymore or pay for prints I really don't want. But... boo hoo hoo!
Alas, do I shop for a new digital camera? Absolutely! It'll be 800% superior and cost only half as much as the old one according to Moore's Law. That's way cheaper than getting the busted one fixed, I'm sure. Of course, it would have been cheaper still if the old camera hadn't crashed at all. Oh well, I guess I better start working on conjuring up the cash.
