Forestville Historical Society Minutes

October 2000

The meeing was called to order at 3:00 P.M. by President Penny Hutten

In the interest of time the minutes of the previous meeting were not read aloud, but a copy was given to the President and duly noted.

The treasurer’s report was accepted as not changed from the previous meeting.

The additions to the web site were discussed. The brochure will mention the web site and a poster will be put up at the centennial display to inform visitors about it. We can announce our meetings and the Centennial History Tour on the web, as well.

There was a short discussion about the new library that will be developed at the High School, combining their collection and the Forestville Public Library collection. It will have an area set aside for our historic resource material including books, papers and displays of historic artifacts of the town, which we will maintain. A time capsule will be a part of the new library dedication.

A speaker was not presented. This was a work meeting to discuss final preparations for the Historic Walking Tour and our display to be presented in the Forestville School Auditorium.

A separate meeting will be at Penny’s home to assemble the posters to be displayed at the tour sites and the photo boards to be displayed in the school auditorium.

Penny and Darleen will contact the various business owners for permission to display the posters. Verna will work with Darleen on the maps and list of sites to be printed in a handout for the Tour. Press releases have been sent by Verna. Darleen has material to give to the Sonoma West Times & News. Several of us will write some brief histories about the locales for addition to the posters. Darleen is coordinating most of the details.

We will also have on display a Faudre chair and a hop-picker’s basket along with the old scale used by Silk and Son before standardized weights and measures. Darleen will set up tables with historic information and photographs for visitors read and see. Lynn and Lavon will help her with the displays. We will be at the school at 10 A.M. on Sunday the 31st of October. Jerry and Penny will put up the posters that morning.

Jerry, as treasurer, will accept payment for the photo/lithograph packets and new memberships. Most members will assist in some way.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 P.M. - Respectfully submitted, Verna B. Sec.
