The meeting was called to order at 3:10 p.m. by acting president Penny Hutten. Eight members were present and introductions were made.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and financial report given.
The October 3rd History Walking Tour was discussed.
Jeff Tobes and his students will do living history presentations at four locations . 1. The Elementary School : a model classroom circa 1898
2. The Forestville Chair Factory
3. Jewetts Ice Cream Store
4. The Railway Station
- The owners of the historic home on Covey and Van Keppel Roads will present the history of their house in period costume, for visitors.
- Eight Tour locations were discussed to verify their original location.
- Penny asked for volunteers to be at her house on Wednesday the 8th at 11:00 a.m.to help create the Tour Map and discuss other Tourdetails.
- Darlene reported on Fund Raising:
There will be four different pictures from the archives that will be for sale for the tour. The early Forestville School with the tower is one, as well as one of the "stage" that served the railway station.
- Future fundraisers might include creating poster-sized lithographs from some of the photographs in our archives, as well as possibly making large photographic signs for the front of some of the shops in town showing their original appearance.
- Penny reported that member Dave Henry has an old safe that might be useful in the new Library for the storage of archival materials we collect. A section set aside in the Library for the Historical Society’s holdings was also discussed. Some material will be for public use.
- Penny also reported that she will not be presiding indefinitely over our meetings and that we should be considering who to elect as President in January. She will continue to create and maintain the Web Page.
- A call for publicity assistance was answered by Verna for the October 3rd History Walking Tour. (Another person should be chosen for the permanent post of Publicity Chairman at a later meeting.)
- Members are needed to be at the IOOF Hall at 10 a.m. on October 3rd to set up the display, posters, pictures and fund raising materials.
Our speaker, Lorraine Kimes Owen was introduced. She spoke of the early days in Forestville a nd read excerpts from her book: The Satisfying Life of a Country Girl , with stories about her family earlier in the century.
