Zombies on the March

I walk a lot and I don't know why, but it drives me nuts when I hear shuffling feet following along behind me. Ssscrape - scrape - scrape - scrape! Yeah, zombies on the march! I always turn around to see just what kind of zombie it is. It's almost always someone in their teens or early twenties - unless they're wearing flip-flop type sandals. Didn't their mother teach them to walk? Are they so bereft of self-esteem that they cry out for attention at every step? Is this the footwear equivalent of the baggy pants at half mast? For the males that's what it looks like - a protest against having to get up and do something - a statement that they are so cool that they are jaded at a young age.

The females are different. None of them have the baggy or shabby look and yet there they are, shuffling down the street. Is this the equivalent of high heels and bound feet? Could this also be a cry for attention?

Or maybe they just want my brains.
