Planning a Ski Vacation to Utah
Here are some suggestions for arranging a ski trip to a fully furnished self catering ski lodge, chalet, condo, or rental ski home for a winter sports vacation or holiday in Utah.
Decide Where You Want to Ski.
The Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude side of the mountains have much
more and better snow than Park City and other nearby resorts although they
are close geographically. Park City has more after ski activities for young
adults and as an old mining town, has been turned into a tourist attraction with shops.
Arrange Your Accomodations Before You Arrange Your Flights.
Decide if you want ski-in/ski-out with a location at the ski slopes. The advantage
is that you don't have to travel every day to ski. The disadvantages are that
you are limited in resturaunt and entertainment choice in the evening, it
is more difficult to ski the different resorts (longer travel times to other
resorts) and it is more expensive. By arranging your ski chalet before your
flight and making other arrangements you can make sure your ski home is available
for the dates you want. Owners of these prperties prefer Saturday to Sunday booking.
You can often get a discount for dates that fit between
bookings. Some people stay in hotels for a day or two if the vacation home
is booked for some of the time.
Choose the Best Dates for Your Ski or Snowboard Vacation.
The low season prices in January follow immediately after the high priced
holiday season. The reduced prices on lodging and car rentals, not to mention
increased snow-fall, make this an attractive choice. Most kids are in school
and it is hard for a family with children to use this time, but for an adult
family or group it is ideal. Even the ski lifts are less crowded.
Arranging the Details.
The owner of the lodging should be able to help you with local information and can probably save
you time and money. Ask about automobile rental, discount lift tickets, baby sitting. Ask about
ski and snowboard equipment rental and service, and for other local information. Ask about the
property to make sure it fits your requirements. THe airline flight should be arranged by you as
it is easier to get flight information from your home location. Also many people come from different
