The Vallelunga family name is obviously Italian/Sicilian in origin, although curiously, many people have asked if the name was Spanish in origin. Not surprisingly, Vallelunga means "Long Valley." Because this is such a generic description, the name is shared with a few other items listed below. This also means that not all Vallelungas are necessarily related.

- A Ceramic Tile company also outside Rome
- Even a couple of greyhound show dogs (in Belgium) share this name!

Genealogy
I have not had the time to significantly trace back my family origins. I do know that my grandfather and grandmother on my father's side came to the US from the town of Trabia, Sicily. This is about 17 miles (27km) east of Palermo (see map.) What does appear obvious is that my distant relatives must have originally been from the mountain town of Vallelunga, about 45 miles inland from Palermo. Unfortunately I have not yet had time to research/verify this.
I have recently begun to put together my family tree using Broderbund's Family Tree Maker. The Vallelunga portion is listed here. Note that one uncle of mine, for some reason, decided to change his name to Vollelunga when he was fairly young; hence the change in family name at that point. I will add to this list as time permits. There are probably a few errors in this, and many dates are missing, but I will try to improve it with time. Of course, any further information is greatly appreciated; just E-mail me.
Currently I can only go back to a Filippo Vallelunga who was probably born around 1840-1850, probably in Trabia or around there. Some of his children (possibly more than are listed here) moved to the San Francisco area some time around the early 1900's. Most of my immediate relatives currently live in Northern California.
