2. Von's Trail (I don't know what it is called) - Palm Springs California

I was on a trip to Palm Springs in April of 2000 and stopped by a bike shop in town and inquired where I could ride. They recommended a series of trails that start behind the Von's Supermarket at the Corner of Gene Autry Way and Hwy 111. After carrying your bike over a gate you start climbing into the hills. The fire road is very steep and as you go up you will find numerous "Goat" trails that lead off the main trail. I climbed about 3 miles in and took in the spectacular view of the valley. It was about 98 degrees which is not bad for Palm Springs, so I decided to turn around and tryout some of the Goat trails on the way down. I wish I had spent more time exploring some of the other trails and maybe doing an epic ride into the hills. So if you are in Palm Springs, give this trail a try. It is difficult to get lost since you can see the valley where you started.

3. Pacific Union College - Angwin, California

PUC is located above the Napa Valley in Northern California. The trails cover both private and public lands with lots of singe track. Even if you are not into racing, signing up for Napa Valley Dirt Classic race is worth it just to ride the trails. There area consists mainly of wooded single track with technical climbs/downhills and some beautiful meadows. The back side of the area is called Pope Valley which has some nasty, steep and rutted fire roads.
