Secrets to Lasting Success: 1. Don't make sales, make relationships. Little Raidl has rarely sold just one installation to a client. Many clients have five or more pieces, and much of the studio's work comes from referrals from satisfied customers. 2. Be Genuine. In a business as tied in with the personal concerns of how someone's living environment will be changed, there is no room for the hustler. Jim Raidl understands marketing, but he isn't looking to sell someone a piece of art that has no meaning to the client (although as suave as he is, he could). And Roy Little is a fine artist who focuses his skills and talent to communicate a work appropriate to the environment and the client-not just what he wants to create. 3. Network. Jim and Roy are social creatures, which helps them in their business. They have become adroit at turning clients into friends who will return again and again for art. They also make the considerable effort to remain active in their artistic community, attending high-profile events and entering local art shows. 4. Be Happy with What You're Doing. This isn't a simple thing, and it doesn't mean you'll be happy at all times, but rather, that you should strive to be fundamentally fulfilled and inspired by whatever it is you do. As Roy so succinctly puts it, "We like what we do and we like the people we meet. That's helped us through the tough times." |
