End-of-summer dancing

*yawn*

I can always tell when the end of the summer is coming upon us -- the first thing I start hearing when I wake up is the Scottish Dancing school in the garage across the street. Rhythmic thumping and dear old Elsie (immigrant from the WWII era, repeat national champion in Scottish dancing herself) yelling instructions to her students:

*thump*thump*thump*thump*
"Up! Up! Get those knees up!"

Elsie is great fun, though I rarely get the chance to talk to her. If there were ever an NT that could be mistaken for someone with AS, she would be it. She has social skills aplenty, that is, but she has zero interest in tact. One time I was out walking with her, a few years ago, and we passed another neighbor. We waved, smiled, and ten feet later she commented casually: "I swear to God, that man gets fatter every time I see him. How does he fit in his car?" Hearing this from a kid might cause disapproval. Hearing it in a mild accent from a little sixty-something year old woman is really amusing.
