There's also a great essay at SF Gate on Marriage Protection Week -- make sure to check out Shut Up And Say "I Do" by Mark Morford!

Me, I'm still angry because even though I am in a heterosexual relationship, the government will take away all financial support if I marry (so I can either be a burden to my partner or find a way to circumvent society's lack of accommodations for disabled autistics) and in many states it's not legal to have any form of adult relationship with an autistic. That is why I chose the banner I did -- legally recognizing a deep emotional bond between two consenting adults should be a matter of devoted love, and should not involve discrimination against any minority group.

Is it really true that in some states autistics are not legally allowed to marry? Does that mean even a dx of Asperger's consigns you to a single life forever? And who is to decide whether or not you are autistic? To me, the emphasis on marriage makes those of us who are not able to make relationships feel utterly left out.
