Acanthophippium mantinianum
This Philippine species grows warm with moderate to low light. Bright yellow trumphet-like flowers emerge from the base of the pseudobulb. Has a soft, slightly sweet fragrance. Although this grows easily in cultivation, it is rarely found in private collections.

Ada aurantiaca
This vibrant, electric orange species hails from Colombia. Grows cool or on the cool sider of intermediate. Comes from the wet cloud forests up to 6000' elevation. Treat as an odontoglossum. with moderate light. This is another one that grows easily in cultivation, but is not often found in private collections. It is pollinated by hummingbirds.

Aėrangis articulata
This small African species sends down long, long, infloresences of sparkling white flowers with long nectaries. Fragrant in the evening. Likes intermediate temp with moderate light.

Aėrangis citrata
An African species with smallish white flowers and a long spur. Very fragrant in the evenings and at night. Spikes extend 6" to 10" out from the plant with up to 15 to 18 flowers. Likes intermediate temp with moderate light.

Aėrangis fastuosa
Another African species with large flowers. Very fragrant in the evenings and at night. Flowers emerge from under the leaves when leaf spread is about 3". Although it looks like a miniature angraecum, the flower is large for plant size. Likes intermediate temp with moderate light.

Angraecum distichum
Small African species producing many white flowers. Likes intermediate temperatures with moderate light. Slow grower, but very rewarding.

Angraecum florulentum
Mid-size species from the Comoros Islands off the east coast of Africa. Short spikes produce up to four pure white flowers held well out from the foliage. Likes intermediate temperatures with moderate light.

Angraecum germanyanum
Small, compact African species producing several white flowers from different leaf axis up and down the stalk.. Likes intermediate temperatures with moderate light. Fragrant at night.

Arpophyllum spicatum
A Mexican species that produces violet/fuschia colored flowers clustered to resemble a torch. Grows well and produces multiple spikes. Likes a good bright light and intermediate temperatures. Blooms winter through spring.

These plants from a number of locales in Southeast Asia produce vibrant magenta flowers in great profusion on multiple spikes. Likes intermediate to warm temperatures with moderate to bright light. Lots of water and fertilizer during its growing period (summer through fall)

Ascocentrum curvifolium
Often called "The Red One" (the other ascos being orange and magenta), this one tolerates more heat and light. It is found in Thailand. Produces vibrant red/orange flowers in great profusion on multiple spikes. Lots of water and fertilizer during its growing period (summer through fall). Flowering season is summer, later than the other two on this page.
