It
might have taken 20 years to create the Acutus, but the Diva proved to be the
most difficult turntable design in the history of AVID engineering. The demand
for a more affordable table was strong, but Conrad would not compromise his
engineering standards to reach a specific price point.
Continuing with AVID’s tradition of precision machining and the design philosophy established by the Acutus, the Diva was born. AVID was not going to shy away from its design principles: take any and all vibration generated away from the stylus and transfer it through the bearing to an active suspension – creating an uncolored, dynamic, and detailed musical presentation from your favorite LPs. In order to channel any of the vibration generated by the stylus “reading” the LP, the Diva’s platter is made of MDF and glass. The MDF gives mass and damping to the glass, but the glass is special because it reflects any resonance generated by the stylus. Since the record is clamped to the platter with a solid stainless steel clamp, the resonance has no place to go but to travel down the spindle into the inverted bearing, released into the active suspension. The springs of the suspension support an octopus-like design holding the drive hub and the inverted bearing. The three suspension feet are machined from solid stainless steel and are the same as the Acutus, except that they are positioned upside-down and sit flat on a rack or table. Each spring has an easily adjustable frequency so perfect vertical bounce can be achieved.
The sophisticated active suspension completely isolates any external or internal vibration producing clarity, pace and rhythm, as the depth of the music penetrates your listening room. The ‘table will astonish you with its amazing pitch control, the result of a powerful stand-alone motor, external power supply, round drive belt, and smooth drive hub. Like all of AVID’s designs, no amount of vibration will phase the Diva. Even if you are shaking the ‘table, the speed of the platter will stay the same as there is no drive belt groove to change the length or tension of the belt.
