Letter #9 from PNG

3-27-00 Letter #9 THE SITE! Ah yes...the perpetual question that goes through every  Peace Corps trainees mind; what kind of site will I get,  where will I go, what will I do, what kind of house will I  have, etc.? Well I am glad to say those questions have been answered for  me. Lynna and I will be working at the Mount Sion Centre for  the Blind. Mt. Sion works with adults and children with all  kinds of disabilities, including deaf, blind, and other  physical and mental handicaps. The work we will do includes  community based rehabilitation, public outreach, workshops,  advocacy for the disabled, helping them find work, and  helping set up and run a deaf club in Garoka. We will have  to learn Australian sign language which is what they use  here in PNG. They also want us to help with researching and  developing a PNG sing language. Because Mt. Sion is here in Garoka which is where our  training takes place we have been able to go and visit the  Centre. We have met most of the staff that we will be  working with and they seem like a real good hard working  bunch. I am looking forward to working with them. One  afternoon we got to got and visit the deaf education  classroom. Apparently the school year here just started one  week ago. There was a little deaf girl who was going to  school for the first time. For the first week her Mom had  stayed with her in the class. The day we were there her Dad  was with her and he wanted to drop her off but she wouldn't  let go of him. Finally she let go and the teacher distracted  her and her Dad slipped out the door. When the girl realized  her Dad had left she started crying and having a big temper  tantrum. The teacher had to take her outside to calm her  down and left me and Lynna alone with the six other  children. Not knowing what to do we turned the classroom  around; we became the students and the children the  teachers. For the next two hours we all had a great time  with them teaching us Australian Sign Language. It was  thrilling, almost overwhelming how excited these kids were  to have us there learning to communicate with them. We also got to see our new house. I must say that I had the  romantic notion that we would be living in  a traditional  bush hut, cooking over a fire, bathing in a stream, and  going to the bathroom in a pit latrine. So I was quite  disappointed when I found out we will be living in a three  bedroom house with 24 hour electricity, running water,  propane stove, and maybe a refrigerator. I guess we will  have to make do...darn it! The day of the big site announcement was also on the same  day we left homestay. We were relieved and emotionally  exhausted from finishing homestay. Also we were all giddy  with excitement to learn about our site. They put up a big  chart: they had me and Lynna going to the mine to do mining,  the business couple doing corporate development, the  geologist couple doing exploratory drilling, the ex-marine  couple doing embassy security, and all the older couples  working on top of big mountains, and so on. I thought it was  hilarious, but I would say about half the people were in  shock because they weren't sure if it was real or not. Then  after the joke they handed out the real sites. I guess we  trainees will have to think of a way to get the staff back! NANCY HAD A BABY!

Letter #8 from PNG

Hi all-- Matt here again. This is letter number eight, and it turns  out that letter number six was a personal letter that my  brother sent to me. Also, Andy has a new mailing address: Andy Stevenson Mount Sion Centre for the Blind P.O. Box 1068 Garoka EHP Papua New Guinea (South Pacific) Please write to Andy. Although he and Lynna are having a  wonderful time, I know that he is feeling very homesick, and  your letters and postcards really help a lot. Cheers, Matt Letter #8 3-26-00 Hello Everyone, Well, I have lots of good news.  Homestay is over. It is one thing to go and live with some  total strangers for five weeks, however do any of you think  you could have two total strangers come into your house and  live with you for five weeks? I realize that my last letter was a little bit negative  because of our problems with Papa Peter. We went back the  next day and everything was cool. As we later found out the  rest of the village was upset with Peter and gave him a  severe tongue lashing. Nonetheless, we wanted to end home  stay on a positive note, so we made up a photo album of us,  them, and the villagers and gave it to them. These people do  not have cameras, and they love pictures. They love to look  at the pictures we have from back home. They will gather  around (10-15 people) and want us to explain every picture.  We also gave Mama a very nice framed picture of a head shot  showing all the tattoos on her face. I am not sure if I have  mentioned the gifts that were given to us: a bow and set of  arrows that Peter made, a Kina shell necklace (the Kina  shell used to be the traditional money of PNG), 4 bilum bags  (2 from Mama and Papa, and 2 from the villagers), and lots  of memories. One of the bilums was given to us from a person  whom I had only met once and can't remember what they look  like. It feels a little awkward how open and giving these people  are, they have so little, yet they give so much. These  people really open up their hearts to you and create a bond  with us that we may not be aware of or comfortable with.  Their wealth is not in their "things" but in their  relationships to family and friends (wantoks). Those of us  coming from a Western society are handicapped in our ability  to open up our hearts and to bond with people and show our  emotions. (Of course I am generalizing, I can think of many  Stevenson family members who are the exception to this). :) So then came the day for us to leave. As it is, Papua New  Guineans are emotional people. In the days leading up to our  departure Mama and Papa Peter would break out into tears at  the thought of our departure. The morning we left Papa broke  into a loud sobbing cry! Mama cried but did not sob. It  seemed like half the village came out to see us off despite  it being 6:45 in the morning. Even many of them were crying  too. This was a strange experience for me, I wasn't really  sure how to deal with it (in America I expect I would be  leaping for joy after having house guests leave after five  weeks!). I may at best just get used to it. I don't believe  the answer lies in learning to become overtly emotional like  them. I realize now perhaps I need to reevaluate what the  value of relationships mean to me. This letter was a lot longer than I intended. I will have to  write another just to tell you about our site assignment! I love you ALL! Non-Numbered Letter from PNG

Hi Everyone-- What follows is a portion of a letter that Andy sent to our  folks. Some of the issues he writes about here are clarified  in letter #8, which I will post forthwith. Matt 3-19-00 Hi All, Today Lynna and I had a big long interview with the site  placement team. Our interview was the longest of any of the  couples. Apparently, they had some misconceptions about us  as far as what kind of site we wanted and medical and  security issues involving my hearing loss.  Hopefully, we got it cleared up. They thought that we were  only interested in this one site at a Deaf/Blind school. As  it turns out, they probably will not have a site there  because of security concerns. They thought maybe we would go  home if we couldn't get that site. NO WAY!   We will stay,  Thank You Very Much!!! Then, on top of that, they didn't seem too interested in  placing us in the only forestry specific site they have and  I'm the only forester in the group! Hopefully, they will get  their head out of their asses and make the right decision  later this week when they make the official site  announcement. We had another drunken Papa Peter incident last night  (Saturday night). We stayed at the conference center  (Kefamo) and hopefully, will go back today and finish up the  last 3 days of home stay. Then we will receive our official  site announcement. After site announcement, we have about 2   more weeks of training. There has been a lot of tribal and clan fighting here in the  Eastern Highlands. The Peace Corps is seriously considering  not placing any volunteers in the Highlands, which is where  the Deaf/Blind School site is. Other than the drunken Papa incident (we had to go to  bed/hide in our room at 7:00 p.m. to get away from him, but  nothing else happened), we are healthy and happy.  That's it for now. Any mail y'all can send would be great. Thanks and Clarification for Scott

Yes, Scott, Tom and Jeanne had a miscarriage of  the baby they were expecting in October. It was sad because this time they had to explain  it to their three children and that is a tough one because it is one of those times in life when we  don't have and answer as to WHY ? My thanks to Debbie for writing the letter for me because I was in Philadelphia, computerless !  I couldn't have said it better myself, Deb. My thanks  also to all who sent cards, notes, e-mails,  and phone calls to Tom and Jeanne and their kidlings. It  meant A LOT to them. Their neighbors have been bringing lots of food to their house, too. It is amazing how all that support helps us grieve and gives us strength.  People are good ! Bless you all. Will write soon to tell you all about our new house under construction. Jenny is trying to set up a web site so we can put pictures of our progress for all to see. Encounters of the "family" kind.

Greetings from "Chez Roach", or as we call it, The Roach  Hotel. 1500 s.f. of suburbia, close to Elementary, Middle  and High Schools. Best of all...in the heart of the wine  country and "garage band" equipped. We had the pleasure of  TJ, Suzanne and James' company last night for dinner and a  quick jam session. It was very cool to hear TJ (guitar),  James(keyboard), Nick (our 13 yr. old son on drums) & his  friend Ben (lead guitar) playing together. Talk about living  vicariously through your kids... WHAT A BORING LIFE WE LEAD

Aloha Family, With Andy, Scott, and Jeannine's letters I feel like I am vegetating. Actually that is pretty much  what is happening. The yard is alive with new growth each day and does'nt need to be watered yet so this is the best time. James is resurrecting the business this week-end after a long winter. He still is in pain in his back  and knee from the car accident on the way from Cancun to Akkamal but we are both alot better. I'm loveing my watercolor class on Wednesdays. It's held at a Quaker retirement complex and most of the other artists are 70 or 80 and delightful. It would make a great movie as you see them lose their  health slowly or quickly and some make it back and few succumbed but they continually inspire me with  their jokes, observations, compassion, tell it like it isness, and thier warmth not to mention their cookies and art. They show me everytime old age is to enjoy and not fear. It is the highlight of my week to be  with them and our teacher who finds the best in each and every one of us and our art. Our only male  at this time is a retired arcitect from Texas who recently had a bad stroke but is back in class and  painting even though he is sometimes confused and shaking. A real gentleman he had to move into  the assisted living part of the facility without his wife so he had an open house for his friends and our  class which was fascinating. I'm amazed at his braveness and his ability to still live a full life. Speaking of amazing how about the Pope? How great in the last of his life he is asking for fore- giveness and trying to unite the various religions. I was surprised to learn he had never visted any of those holy places before.  Would love to hear more from the young crowd. What groups do you like, movies, t.v., special friens.\. events etc. Star will graduate this spring as a Phisycal Therapist. We are thrilled for him and Jenifer.    Love, Suzanne and James - Sunday, March 26, 2000 at 12:22:17 (PST) Author: sunshine@sonic.net

Announcing the Opening of Chez Scott!

Wow, those letter from Andy and Lynna (by way of the  very cool and helpful Matt) are something else aren't they?  It gives me chills just reading the story.....it brings  tears to my eyes (a litte) and it amazes me how this circle  letter has been utilized in it's different and interesting  ways. I could never have imagined how awesome the web Circle  letter would be and continue to be. I thank everyone who  contributes and who reads for making this thing so  AWESOME!!!! and I especially (again) thank Aunt Esther and  Uncle Tom for bringing the circle letter to the family.   Ok, now for my meager (compared to Andy and Lynna's)  report...laughing as I wrote that. All is well here in Paris, I have managed to start making  friends and to get an appartment that is big enough to  invite guests too (which is what I hoped I could do). It's a  furnished 38 square meter appartment with a bedroom, a  kitchen/living/dining/guest bedroom room and a big bathroom  with two sinks and a bath and bidet (which I'm still getting  used to). It's located at metro #14 stop Biblioteque  Francois Mitterand, which is the end of line #14. Line #14  is called Météor and it's the newest subway line in Paris.  It's called Meteor because it's FAST! From where I live it  takes between 7 to 10 minutes to be in the center of Paris.  That's the case partially because there are only about 7  stops on the whole line and the line is completely  automated (there's no driver). Also I live very close to the  metro stop about 100 meters (300 feet) from the metro  entrance. Needless to say, the metro definitely factored  into my deciding to take the place.  The owner seems cool and invited me into his appartment (he  lives just below mine) for lunch and coffee today.  Fortunately he doesn't speak much English so I really get a  chance to practice my French.  I will be at the following address for AT LEAST THE NEXT  THREE MONTHS and most likely for a year from today. the address is: Stevenson, Scott 73 rue du Chevaleret #23 75013 Paris, France #23 is my building mailbox number not my appartment number.  It's funny but I actually don't have an appartment number. I  have to describe where I live in order for people to be sure  and find me. So here's my proposal: If anyone is coming to Paris and  needs a destination or a place to stay and a guide, come to  CHEZ SCOTT (Scott's place). I have a twin sized pull-out bed  for those traveling alone and if I have a couple coming I  can give up my queen sized bed and take the pull-out (which  would totally not be a problem.....well, at least for  awhile...**smile**) If you're planning on coming here the best thing to do is  write me e-mail at the address below or call me at:  011 33 6 72 13 76 30 (in France 06 72 13 76 30) otherwise  send a letter to the above street  address. At this point  except for the time I spend on my internet business and with  friends I'm pretty much available to show people around the  city. So, if you've be waiting for a reason to come to  Paris...your wait is over....come stay  with me!  Ok, hope to see some of you!!! Letter #7 from PNG

[THIS LETTER IS "OUT OF SEQUENCE"--I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED  LETTER #6, BUT I WILL POST IT AS SOON AS I RECEIVE IT. -MRS] 3-12-00 Letter #7 Halo olgeta monmeri (Hello Ladies and Gentlemen), Once again I have experienced another delightful week here  in Papua New Guinea. As part of our training Lynna and I  shadowed another volunteer couple for three days. We went to  a small town called Wasu on the north coast of PNG. To get  there we had to fly into Lae, the second largest city in  PNG, and spend the night. Lae is a fairly modern city and it  has a really nice resort--Lae International. However,  despite being on the coast, Lae is not a resort town. PNG  does not have many tourists despite having some of the best  tropical forest and diving in the world. We had to take a small airplane (8 seat Cessna) over a huge  mountain range. The pilot had to squeeze that plane over a  10,000 foot pass. Those were some of the most beautiful  rugged mountains I have ever seen. We could see waterfalls  everywhere, and one valley must have had at least 40  waterfalls pouring into it (that I could see). There are  houses all throughout the forest, and the natives tend to  build the villages on top of steep ridges (to protect them  from enemy attack). Wasu itself is on the coast and is flat. After landing on  the dirt runway we were met by the other couple working  there, Larry and Judy. They are an older couple, mid  fifties. This is Judy's second time in the Peace Corps. She  had gone in the early 60's when PC first started. They were  supposed to run a distance education school for students  (6th-12th)  who failed to get into or couldn't afford high  school. All high schools except one in PNG are boarding  schools. Unfortunately the books for the distance education  never arrived. They did some health education for awhile but  Judy couldn't handle the long hikes out to the villages. Now  they teach preschool three days a week, and they started a  community library which they run out of their house. Larry  and Judy are retired and their background is social work  with the Veterans Administration.  They have a very nice house. It is about 8 feet off the  ground. My understanding is that elevating the house helps  to keep it cool in the hot tropical environment. The house  has three bedrooms, a shower, and a toilet with running  water. Everyday Larry hand-pumps water into a tank on top of  the roof. They have electricity from 6-10 pm and that is  enough to power their refrigerator and have electric lights.  They have propane and a kerosene stove. The house is  provided by the town of Wasu, which sponsored Larry and  Judy. So basically they work with the town council.  For me the highlight of the trip was a kilometer walk into  the "big bush" (the jungle) to a river. We got into the  river and swam all the way to the ocean, about one  kilometer. Larry and Judy had some extra kick boards and we  brought our fins. The river was beautiful and clear. There  were all kinds of trees overhanging the water with vines  dropping down into the water. We saw several dugout canoes  on the shore, and there were coconuts floating in the water  that fell from overhanging palms. Then the ocean...it is so  warm! Like taking a bath.  Tomorrow we go back to home stay with Papa Peter and Mama  for 9 days then we will learn what and where our sites will  be. Letter #5 from PNG

2-29-00 Letter #5 Hello Family and Friends, Lynna and I have been with our family for two weeks now. There were several things that I did not get a chance to tell you about in the previous letter. The day after we arrived here Lynna and I were given new names for our homestay by our family. My name is oo-pie-a, Lynna's name is ah-ka-sou-to. My name is from Papa Peter's  father, and Lynna's name means a person that is from ah-ka-sou-ka, which is the name of the houseland area in which we are staying. Another thing I forgot to mention is "buai." Buai is a local custom where a person chews on a betel nut then adds in a stalk from a mustard plant that is dipped in powdered lime. The combination of these three things is a stimulant. It also produces  dark red spit, it makes your saliva flow and it becomes red like the color of blood. When people are finished they spit it all out. So everywhere we go there are nasty red gobs of spit all over the ground. I think it is worse than chewing tobacco. With the coming of the white men has also come alcohol. One night the first weekend we were here Papa Peter came home after we had gone to bed, it was obvious he had been drinking but he went right to bed and we didn't think much of it. Then the second weekend Peter came home very drunk on Friday at 5:00 pm. It was a very uncomfortable situation. Fortunately he was not violent or belligerent, but none the less, Lynna wouldn't go anywhere near him. I, however, would let him approach me and put his arm around me. He kept asking me to go out to drink with him, I evaded and refused him. Then he got very emotional and started crying. PNG is an emotional culture. It is not shameful for man or woman to openly cry. He grabbed my head and kissed me several times on the cheek. I was not happy about this (who wants a stinky drunk man to kiss them, other than his wife?). We told the Peace Corps staff what had happened and they were not happy. Peter had promised them he wouldn't drink while we were staying with him. They told him if he drank again while we were there, they would move us and the other two couples in the village to another place. Despite this little rough spot with Papa Peter, I am enjoying myself. Everyone wants to shake our hand and say hello, it seems everywhere we go we draw a crowd. I enjoy interacting with the people, but it can be stressful with the communication barriers and the cultural differences. I also enjoy the landscape, the mountains, trees, gardens, rivers, and grass houses. The people of PNG are not that far removed from the life they lived before the white man came. Well I guess this was someone's way of trying to get our  news to the rest of the Stevenson world.  Well the biggest  and best news we have at the moment is our addition. We are  planning on putting an addition on our house - which we  really HOPE to do this spring, to make way for another  addition comong this fall.  Jeanne and I are expecting BABY number 4 this October.  The baby is due on October 12 - which just so happens to be Sophie's 11th birthday.  The  kids are real excited too!  I think four kids will be great,  we both really wanted a bigger family so we decided to go  for it. Jeanne is about 11 weeks along and is feeling pretty  nauseous every day (which is a good thing, one of those  mixed signs that things are ok). We just told our families  this week,wanted to wait until that first Dr. appt. This  will be my parents 13th grandchild. Sophie and Jeanne have their piano recital this Sunday at  St. Edith's in Livonia.  They are both doing excellent! Carly and Sophie are also involved in dance and Sophie plays  in the church handbell choir.  Dillon will be three in June.  He loves to "read" books, play cars and play with his train  table that I built him for Christmas.  He also can talk like  you wouldn't believe - Jeanne always kids that he has surely  got the "Stevenson gene" there. He really likes to answer  the phone and will race to get it.  (Great way to get rid of  those sales callers). Greetings Folks! This circle letter has turned into  something else! Wow it's so awesome to keep track of what  folks are doing. That poem that Mary wrote back in '91 is  now even more relevant than when it was written with  different people (Andy, Lynna, and myself coming to mind)  really spread out in the word.  Well I finally decided to move to settle in Paris after all.  I've been here now for about 4 days and I just feel so much more at home here. I've started my search for an  appartment.  It seems like I'll have a much easier time to find a place  here as opposed to Toulouse where I was before.  I'm a bit sad not to be with Olivia but for now I think it's  best that I'm here getting myself together. Hopefully she'll  come up from Toulouse...but we'll see. Letter #4 from PNG

Letter #4 2-22-00 Halo Yupela (Hello Everyone), Oh boy! Where to begin... For the past five days I have been living with a PNG family.  They live in a village called Kama, which is on the  outskirts of Goroka town. Last Thursday Lynna, me, and two  other Peace Corps couples were dropped off in Kama. Each  couple is staying with a different family. The family we are  living with consists of Papa Peter, Mama, and Peter Jr., who  is about 6 or 7. I don't know Mama's name, I just call her  Mama. Peter and Mama have 4 grown children. Peter works as a  mechanic, Mama cooks, cleans, and works in the garden. Peter  is fairly well educated--he made it through the seventh  grade--knows English, reads everyday, and preaches at  various local Lutheran churches. The house they live in is elevated (2 feet) off the ground,  it has wooden floors covered with linoleum, corrugated tin  roof, wood frame with walls made from grass called pitpit.  The pitpit is touch and fibrous like bamboo, it is flattened  and then woven together in checker board fashion and nailed  to the frame. However, most of the houses in the village are  more traditional with dirt floors, straw roofs, and round in  construction. Papa and Mama's house has four rooms:   kitchen/living room, two bedrooms, and office/storage. the  house is small, maybe 18' x 20'. We are in one of the  bedrooms by ourselves. The toilet (liklik has) is several houses over and over a  small fence, it is basically a pit with a wooden box on top.  The shower area is several flat stones, a bucket, and a  hose, no curtain or enclosure, just nice and open, so that  is why men bathe in swim trunks and women in a laplap. The food staples are rais (rice) and kaukau (sweet  potatoes). They also eat a wide variety of fruits,  vegetables, and kumu (various greens).  Last Friday, we (the three Peace Corps couples in Kama) went  to a big mumu in a neighboring village. A mumu is a big  feast where a massive pit is dug, they light a huge fire,  heat up rocks in the fire, line the pit with the hot rocks,  cover the rocks with banana leaves,  place all the food on  top of the banana leaves, cover the food with another layer  of banana leaves, then the pit is covered with dirt. There  is a hollow bamboo stick sticking into the mumu, the men  pour water into the mumu. The mumu is finished when steam  comes out of the dirt. They put kaukau, kumu, pumpkin,  squash, onion, meat, etc. in it.  Unfortunately we didn't get to celebrate the mumu because a  fight broke out on the other side of the village. Apparently  they were being attacked by the next village over. We were  told to go back to kama where we would be safer. As we were  leaving, Papa Peter comes running up with a big ol' bush  knife in his belt and bow and arrows in hand. He runs off to  help in the fight, and so does Mama with a big club in hand.  As I found out later the mumu was being given in as a reward  for people that supported that village in an ongoing land  dispute. I heard that one person was hurt and the fight  stopped. Peter said that he scared away the attackers with  his bow and arrow.  On Sunday we went to church with Mama & Papa. After church  the people gathered around to talk to us. The little  pikinini (children) would stare at me then come up and touch  real quick and giggle. I am probably the first white person  they have met. The people love to shake hands and talk with us. They love  it when we can talk their language. The local villagers like  to come over and chat with us, they sometimes give us food,  peanuts, bananas, avocados, etc. There are always pikinini  around watching us, interested in what we do. They love to  play with the frisbee we brought, and the little ones love  to be swung about in the air. Many of the women have tattoos, especially on the face. They  are very impressed with my tattoo. Their tattoos are done  with a razor blade and ashes for ink. Mama has all kinds of  tattoos on her face, arms, and legs. STEVENSON  LOTTERY

Hi everyone!! Letter #3 from PNG

2-16-00 Letter #3 Halo Yupela! (Hello Everyone!) I have just spent the past week here in Goroka which is in  the Eastern Highlands Province. We (all volunteers) have  been staying at a missionary compound outside of Goroka  called Kefamu. It is very beautiful here--we are at an  elevation of about 4,800 feet. The climate is subtropical,  with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. For the past week we have been learning language, culture,  medicine, and safety. We have started learning a new  language called Tok Pisin. PNG is a country of over 700  languages, which makes communication between all the tribes  a real challenge. Tok Pisin is a language that was developed  to be a lingua franca among all the tribes and is widely  spoken in PNG. IN the past Tok Pisin was considered a  bastardized dialect of English but now it is recognized as  its own language. Although there are many words that are  similar to English, they are pronounced differently and some  have different meanings. For example, the letter "i" is  pronounced like "e," or "f" is canged to a "p" (e.g. finish  = pinis). Other interesting translations:  bathroom = liklik  haus, food/eat = kaikai, good morning = moning, good  afternoon = apinun, please = plis. The grammer and syntax  are also very different. For example, Tok Pisin basically  only has one pronoun, long. (e.g. Wanem nem bilong you? =  What is your name? Or Mi hamamas long bungim yu = I am happy  to meet you). There are also German, Dutch, and local  influences on Tok Pisin. Thus it really is a foreign  language. Some of the cultural/safety issues involve women's dress.  All women must wear a knee length or longer skirt or dress  at all times and they must be loose, no form fitting shirts.  Women cannot make eye contact with male strangers and should  never be alone. This country has a serious "rascal" problem,  and robberies and holdups are common. We have been told  there have been no female volunteers raped in the past, but  they told us there have been several close calls. At the  market there is no bargaining (people set prices) and there  is no tipping. As for getting around there are many  privately owned Public Motor Vehicles (PMVs). There are no  set times but they are fairly cheap and frequent, otherwise,  ya walkin! We also got our Peace Corps medical kit. It is big! It is a  plastic briefcase with lots of drugs and first aid stuff. It  has all the basic stuff you would find in any household  medicine cabinet and then some! We were also given drugs for  Giardia, amoebas, bacteria, and malaria. The most common  problem we will face here is diarrhea. I would say well over  half of the volunteers had or have diarrhea right now. A few  cases are Giardia, but most are the result of stress and  change in diet. We have had to have several medical sessions  to learn about basic health care. A big emphasis was on  keeping our selves clean, our food clean, and especially our  water clean. We were also given a mosquito net and insect  repellent.  Tomorrow we are starting our home stay. Home stay is when we  move in with a family and live with them for five weeks  (those poor familes...). The families volunteered to take us  in and in exchange we buy them all the food and they have  bragging rights about having the "Amerikans" in their house.  All the volunteers will be in villages outside of Goroka.  The language trainers will come out to the villages four  times a week, and one day a week we will be going back to  Kefamo to meet up with everyone else, to share experiences  and information and receive more guidance from the training  programmers. This "immersion" training is much better than  "center" based training. I think it will be much more  interesting to learn Tok Pisin in the community than in a  classroom, not to mention all the other aspects of village  life. I will tell you more in my next letter about home  stay. I wish I could say more in my letters because there is so  much happening each day. I am learning a lot and I want to  share that with you. I think later over the two years when  things slow down I can share more of what I am learning with  you. SLOW TO READ CIRCLE LETTER

Aloha Family from Suzanne, For the last 3 days I have been reading all the letters  I hadn't read and that went all the way back to  IT'S A BOY!!!! DATED NOV. 24, 1999 I have gotten some of the news second hand from Scott  and James but you know how that goes. Please don't anyone  apologize for writing too long of a letter. I enjoy every  word and I haven't seen one complaint! On the 24th of November we were with Zip and Liz in Los  Angeles enjoying our beautiful grandaughter Sophie who is  full of smiles and love. Zip and especially Liz are doing a  super job of raising a delightful smart child. And of course  she has all that Stevenson blood to boot. Jim and Chitomi with Jatomis, Joseph, and Sammy were all  there for a wonderful Thanksgiving and birthday celebration  for Star. He was born on Thanksgiving Nov.23rd so we always  celebrate him on Thanksgiving. Pretty soon the Stevensons  should have every day on the calendar covered. I think Andy's  idea of contacting Paul Erlich about a population explosion  study on the family is a great idea. The only other family  that I know of this big is Rev. Moon who I think also has 12  children. Jim and Chitomi's boys are sweet and came dressed in  white shirts and ties and their Uncles played so hard with  them they were all tired. Christmas Eve Jerry and Cindy had us along with Jennifer  and Star for dinner. Scott was already in France for the  Milenium. Lyndsey is beautiful and sweet. She is in the  Barbie Doll, Britney Spears, Insinc {sp} phase and has lots  of friends.  Nick is a star in Karate type martial arts and is  playing drums really great with his best friend who plays  great guitar.Nick and Lyndsay both do well in school. We are  sure hopeing the Roach family will be at the 2001 reunion! Cindy and Jerry both got promotions and the New York  Times offered Cindy big bucks but they won't move to San  Francisco thank-goodness! Beth and her mom and dad are going to share Joseph and  Jatomis this summer so some of you will get to enjoy them. Star graduates this spring as a physical therapist and  his internship is going great! Jennifer's mother made the  most decedant cake for the Christmas Eve Party I've ever had. Jennifer is studying so hard at Davis to be a Vetenarian she has little time for anything else. Their apartment is  fixed cute with cobalt and silver accents and white kitty.  They also take in abandoned cats and kittys til they find a  home for them. We miss Scott but he calls often and e-mails  occasionally and it's one less toilet seat leaver upper  around here which is nice. I am always out numbered. In Amsterdam, and family web-site needs

Greetings family!!! Scott here, Thanks to everyone for all of the words of  encouragement!  I'm in Amsterdam now visiting a very good friend (the first  guy I lived with when I originally moved out of my folks'  place).  It's cool for me to be here, Amsterdam was the first city  that I flew into and visited here in Europe so it's a bit  like seeing an old friend as well. I had my first negative experience (crime wise) on the way  to Amsterdam from Toulouse. I had traveled in a sleeper car  with one other person a middle aged woman who was quite  friendly. We were taking the train from Toulouse to Paris. I  woke up the next morning and chatted some more and then I  had to go use the restroom (just as the train was beginning  to slow down for our final stop). When I came back the woman  was gone...which I thought was a little odd because we had  chatted a bit and had struck up a good repoire. So, I had  expected to say good-bye to her. Everything seemed normal in   my cabin until I went to exit the train (which had stopped  by now).I checked for my connecting and return  tickets...they were gone! I searched and searched and  searched for them to no avail. What I came to realize was  that the woman had taken them and had left our cabin to be  one of the first to get off. She was a bit clever to only  take the tickets because if she had taken anything else I  would have been sure to notice it right away and tracked  her down before the train completely stopped. Unfortunately  I had to replace the tickets (at about $200.00) cost...ouch.  But luckily nothing else was stolen (especially anything of  sentimental value). Things have been great otherwise. It's great to see my  friend Rick here and Amsterdam still amazes me with it's  difference of culture from the U.S. I have yet to decide where I will reside, Toulouse or Paris.  Olivia is gone right now on vacation to Santo Domingo (which  is why I'm in Amsterdam). When she gets back I'll make my  final decision and then let everyone know my new address. I'm a bit frustrated right now because I have to pay  expensive fees to use the internet at the local cyber-cafes.  This has limited my internet activities until I get set-up  with my own place.  The family web-page here needs some attention (what with  this circle letter growing exponentially), as well there  needs to be a birthday section (obviously). And also I've  neglected family and friends a bit on the e-mail  side <sorry>. Once I get my own place and a good internet connection I  will put a bunch of work into the site.  So, to everyone out there using this web-site please bear  with it until then. I haven't been able to keep up with  reading the letters as well and am only writing now because  I had the good fortune of using a computer at my friend  Rick's school library. To Matt, that is soo cool of you to reprint Andy and Lynna's  letters here on the Circle letter. Those first two letter  have put my own trip into perspective. I've got it fairly  easy here! THIS EVER GROWING LETTER!!!!

Well...once again I am feeling truly blessed by this  wonderful family of ours!!! and it's never ending with this  ever growing cicle letter...last night I just wanted to  print Andy's new address and I didn't know that it wouldn't  stop after HIS letter was done and when I checked out the  page amounts as it was coming out of the printer it  said...ONE OF SEVENTY EIGHT !!!!!  I thought,  Oh my  gosh...THIS WILL BE PRINTING OUT THE WHOLE CIRCLE LETTER  FROM THE BEGINNING!!!Sarah helped me stop it after two  pages but can you believe that???? We already have 78 pages  to this CIRCLE LETTER!!!!  I just finished writing to Matt and Amy Stevenson and  thanking them for putting together the genealogy website. Letter #2 2-9-00 Hey Guys! Today is my birthday! I am mostly recovered from the jet  lag. That was one long day of travel. We are still in Port  Moresby. We are staying at the Bankers College. This first  week here is to take care of administrative stuff, and  introduce us to the country and inform us of whats ahead.  The weather is just what you would expect of the tropics,  very hot and muggy. We get sweaty just sitting still out  side. We'll be here in PM for 4 days then go to Goroka to  start our formal training in the highlands. There has been a very big emphasis on safety. We were each  given a personal safety alarm that is VERY loud  when activated. No one is allowed to go out after dark,  Period! No one can go out alone during the day, they must be in groups. Backpacks are to be carried in front, not  on your back. Can't go to rugby games. Females must dress  conservatively, can't make eye contact with men. Don't wear  anything expensive looking including a camera around your  neck. You must ask people to take their picture. Many of  these rules are for the big cities we will be in during our  training. In our individual villages these rules will be  relaxed. Yesterday I had my interview with the medical officer. It  seems that he was not informed by the Washington office of  my disability and was surprised/upset to have just found out  now. He seems to think that my hearing loss will make it  more difficult to place me in my assignment. I now realize I  must work with him and the other trainers to show him that I can be just as aware, safe, and effective as any  other volunteer. As for medical concerns, this is a tropical country and  there is malaria. The first night we were here we had to  take a drug called Methiquine. We also had to have a special  drug test to make sure we have a certain enzyme that allows  us to digest the drug so it can work. Taking the medicine is very important. We take it once a week. If we do not take  the drug we will be sent home. The medical officer said that  he doesn't know of any volunteers who have gotten malaria  while on the medication. We also had to get 3 vaccinations,  Hepatitis A & B and Typhoid. The Typhoid shot has made my  arm very sore. 2-11-00 Yesterday we got to go out on the town and see more of Port  Moresby and see the PC office. It is a nice office in a  shopping area. I must say by our standards the town is kinda  rough looking. Almost all the homes and businesses are  fenced in with barbed wire on top. Most businesses have security guards. We also opened up banking accounts in which  PC will make regular deposits. Today we went to the PNG national museum. There they had all  kinds of artifacts, displays, history, and animals,  including live ones. I actually got to play with a bird of  paradise, it was very friendly. The bird ate one of Lynna's  earings, it was a sea shell and the bird ate it right off the ring. Then we stopped and took pictures of their  Parliament building. The building was built by Australia as  a gift to the new nation. Then we had a big BBQ picnic for everyone that was cooked by  the trainees. I cooked up my beans and rice recipe, or at  least a variation of it, because they don't have quite the  same kind of ingredients here, but the people still seemed  to like it. Tomorrow--GOROKA! Next week I will write another  letter from Goroka.  I love you guys, Andy - Thursday, February 24, 2000 at 10:13:19 (PST) Author: mrs@nr.usu.edu

Letter #1 from PNG

Letter #1 2-9-00 Hello Everyone-- This is the first of many letters I plan to write about my  adventures in the Peace Corps. I hope that you will enjoy  these letters and perhaps find the time to write me a letter  back. For those of you who I have not kept in touch with recently,  let me fill you in. In March of 1999 my girlfriend, Lynna  Holland, and I sent in a joint application to the Peace  Corps. After jumping through many hoops and various other  red tape, we were accepted and assigned to go to Papua New Guinea, an island nation in the South Pacific. Lynna and I made many preparations for our trip. We learned  how to scuba dive, bought a laundry list of things, such as  backpacks, shoes, clothing, cameras, cd walkmans, solar  battery rechargers, and various camping equipment. A lot  of the preparations were done over a one month period while  we were living with my parents in Phoenix. My brother, Matt, flew in from Logan, Utah to spend a week  with me and see me off on my departure, February 4th. Lynna  and I flew to Seattle, Washington, where we met up with the  other couples in our group going to Papua New Guinea (PNG).  We spent one night in Seattle and did some final paperwork  and orientation before going overseas. We departed Seattle February 5th and flew to San Francisco  where we got on another plane going to Sydney, Australia. We  left San Francisco on the 5th and 14 hours later arrived in  Sydney on the 7th of February. Just skipped a whole day.  Once we arrived in Australia we had to change planes to Port Moresby (the capital of PNG). This is when I discovered that  I was missing my ticket for this flight. We were unable to  find it anywhere--I thought I was going to have to buy  another ticket, but because I am such a swell guy and I was  with all these cool Peace Corps people they let me on the  plane anyway. Finally we arrived in Port Moresby. In the  next letter I will talk about Port Moresby and what happens  there. PNG & Family History

Hi Everyone! My goodness but we have a large family. As I scrolled down, down, down, down, down through the list of birthdays I couldn't help but think "Hmm...maybe Paul Ehrlich will be interested in using our family as a case study in exponential growth for his next book on overpopulation." :) Truly amazing how many people have descended just from James and Eunice. But, at the same time, it is also amazing how incredibly talented, intelligent, diverse and caring this family is. Bit of a trade-off I suppose. Hello All

Hello family,  This is little Dan again (not young Dan, right Uncle Dan?) with a wedding  update.  Jill and I are doing great. We have changed the date of the wedding to November 25th 2000. It is official now, we have the church and the reception site booked already.  It is the weekend of Thanksgiving so some of you should have the  extra day to travel.  We are going to  figure out the hotel situation soon so  we can give you all as much notice as possible.  We are also going to set something up for babysitting for the day of the wedding. We had a very productive week last week.  We got the church (St. Francis de Sales), picked out  our invitations, registered at JC Penny, booked  Green Hill for the reception, and now we are  starting to work on the guest list.  If anybody  has changed addresses lately please send me your new address.  We have the list from Jenny's wedding so if you moved since then we will need it. HELLO, from Leah!!!

Hello to the whole Stevenson family!!! This is  Leah. I stayed the night at Sarah's last night. This week  is Winter Break!!! The Terrence Stevenson family is doing  very well. As you all have probably heard,we just moved to  a new home on Coventry, December 16,2000.(I think thats the  right date) So thats been fun. Terry has been doing good,  still working a lot, but having fun. Chris is good. Shes  been getting involved a lot with Leahs Pom squad. John's  great. He just got a new job at Merrill-Lynch. Yep our  little Johnny is going to be a millionair!! He's still  really into his guitar too. Leah is awesome! This year Leah  was in 2 sports, Volleyball and Poms. Shes been very busy.  As you all know, Leah turns 16 on February 20th!!! So she  gets her licence on February 21!! How exciting!!! Shes also  still singing. Paul is doing really well. LAst year Paul  was introduced to the sport, snowboarding. So this year for  christmas he got a snowboarding pass. So that's what Pauls  been doing. Anna is cute!! Shes good. We are getting her a  puppy soon. She's in the Annie play at her school. She has  a solo, shes one of the orphans. So all in all we're doin  very well!! We miss everybody and can't wait to see you!! I  hope all of your Valentines Day was very SWEET! This is for  all of you, @--->---- ( a rose)                     We love you all,                        Love ,                     The Stevensons    - Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 05:02:21 (PST) Author: jamg1971@AOL.com

HELLO SWEET FAMILY

2/6/2000 8:13 PM pst      Dear family of mine, It has been a very long time since I have written in the family  circle letter. Writing for me is not easy, and so I tend to not write.       Shame on me.      Two weeks ago, on Sunday January 23, Suzanne and I flew to  Cancun Mexico, in the state of Quintana Roo to spend 10 days  in the warm tropical climate of the Yucatán Peninsula. It is on  the south eastern coast of Mexico. (http://www.yucatanweb.com/general/default.htm#about) Some dear friends of ours, Kathy Sonhiem and Don Foxx invited  us to stay at their villa in the small town called Akumal, a mayan  name for “The place of the Turtles”. The villa is named  “Casas Zorros”, and is about 62 miles (100 km) south-southwest  of Cancun.       Don picked us up at the airport at about 10:45 PM cst., in their  1998 full size diesel engine Doge Ram pickup truck. I sat in the  front passenger seat and Suzanne sat behind me. All of us were  wearing seat belts. We headed toward Akumal on (Hwy 307),  a brand new  highway. The highway seemed like one of our  Interstate Highway new and safe. The weather was dry and we  were traveling along at about 65-70 mph. Don likes to drive fast and there was almost no traffic on the road. He was driving in  the fast lane and we were engaged in lively conversation about  being in southern Mexico. Mexican freeways can be “Treacherous”,  because the fast lane that we were driving in became a  “turning circle lane “and was NOT clearly marked as such. All of  the sudden their was a huge freeway sign dead ahead of us. For a  moment I thought Don was going to go to the left of the sign and  drive out on to the median, but at the last second he tried to get  back on the main highway and we hit the freeway sign perfectly in  the middle of the Truck, as if the sign was going to split the truck  right down the middle. We went from moving at 65-70 mph  to -0- mph in 1 second. ||SMASH|| The motor was moved  2 and 1/2 feet inward and slightly downward from the front bumper. At impact I felt my sacroiliac wrench forward and felt a sharp pain  in my back. 1 or 2 seconds later I heard Suzanne moaning,  “I can’t breath”. By this time I had come to my senses and  immediately opened the door to the truck, released my seat belt  pulled the back of my seat forward and helped Suzanne out of  the truck and walked her across the road to the right shoulder,  fearing a explosion. She sat down on a large cement block that  was holding up another large freeway sign. Both Suzanne and I wanted to lie down but couldn’t for fear of  being hit by on coming traffic and the fear of going unconscious. Fortunately, at the moment of the accident, someone with a  cellular phone was driving by and called an ambulance which  was only about 2 miles back on the freeway in the  town of  Playa del Carmen.  The ambulance arrived within about 3 or 4 minutes. As soon  as I saw to it that the paramedics were helping Suzanne I climbed  into the ambulance and laid down. With in a minute or so the  paramedics had Suzanne on a wooden stretcher and in the  ambulance and we were on our way to Cancun, 45 minutes away.  On the way to the hospital Suzanne was in so much pain that  she started singing especially when the pain got intense and that  was such a good idea that I started singing and sang most the  way to the hospital. Once at the hospital they examined all three of us, Took X-ray’s  using a portable machine and at first did not use a lead blanket  to protect us from stray X-rays until Suzanne asked for one to  cover her eyes. We were obviously in Mexico, because no hospital  in the U.S. Would take a X-ray without a protective blanket. Anyway  although we were very badly bruised by the seat belts and my  right leg just below my knee was banged up real good, we were  not seriously hurt. THE FOLLOWING IS MORE INFORMATION ON JIM BOUDREAU'S  CLOTTING CONDITION.. Warfin, aka "Coumadin or Panwarfin or Sofarin" comes in  tablets or injection form and is available as a generic  (cheaper).  As you mentioned these disrupt Vit. K's ability  to help with blood clotting.  It was late when I wrote that  Potassium and Vit. K actually would help to dissolve clots,  I was wrong with both of those and I apologize.  The  following information is correct, I promise! Because Couadin disrupts Vit. K's effectiveness it is  probably a good idea to AVOID foods high in Vitamin K  (leafy vegetables-what a break!- broccoli, cauliflower,  kale, spinach, cabbage, liver and to some degree,  milk)..Intake of too much Vit. K can override the  anticlotting effects of warfarin and render the drug  useless. In addition, Megadoses of Vitamin E (Alpha-tocopherol,  tocopherol, tocotrienol) can enhance the effects of  anticoagulant medications...The danger of taking Megadoses  of Vit. E though, is that the tide could turn the otherway  and a person could bleed too easily and internal  hemmorrhaging could result...Sources of Vit. E include  wheat germ oil, sunflower seeds, sweet potatos, any seed  oils, shrimp, peanut butter, parsley, and oat bran. SIGNIFICANT SIGNS THAT YOUR MEDICATION MAY BE TOO STRONG  ARE;UNUSUALLY BLEEDING GUMS, UNCONTROLLED NOSEBLEEDS,  BLOOD IN THE URINE, OR BLACK TAR-LIKE STOOLS (BLOOD IN THE  STOOLS) Other serious side effects from Coumadin could include,  allergic reactions(wheezing, breathing difficulty, hives,  or swelling of lips, tongue, and throat), black blood laced  vomit, bruises on skin, less common side effects include  loss of appetite, unusual weight loss, nausea, vomiting,  skin rash, diarrhea, cramping. Medical Information for Everyone!

Dear Jim,      Jim, I am sorry to hear about your clotting  difficulties...You must be terribly frustrated.  You  probably know by now that they're no easy answers for these  body-wide or systemic conditions.   As a orthopedic type physical therapist, I am lucky to  deal with specific conditions that generally can be  resolved with physical therapy(education,exercise for range  of motion, strength and stabilization, positioning for  comfort, spinal or joint manipulation, soft tissue  mobilization,wound debriment, chemical, thermal or  electrical interventions) or surgery then physical therapy!  Needless to say, internal medicine is not something  therapist spend a lot of time on and I am uncomfortable  with portraying myself as having any great knowledge of  internal disease and pathology.  I can however read medical  materials and understand what is being said.  With that in  mind, I could probably answer specific questions  like, "What is Protein C?, What are clots, emboli, throbi,  platelets, antibodies, antigens etc.." or "what does the  drug Heparin or Coumadin do?"  The following information is  me more or less me thinking out loud at my computer after a  long day at the clinic and is general FYI... Blood clots are basically, balls of fibrous tissues that  are developed from blood fluid products like fibrin or  platelets.  So the clot is not so much a bunch of red blood  cells stuck together, but rather it is more like a piece of  scar tissue or scab that is inside your body.     Generally the body is on a thin fence between clotting too  much(Thrombophilia)and bleeding too much (hemophilia)  PROTEINS C AND S help the body the keep that balance.   Protein C helps to stop the body from forming dangerous  clots...so, if you are deficient in protein C than the body  is likely to form dangerous clots more easily.   Usually the antibodies, which are like your bodies own  personal defense system, act against or are ANTI to harmful  bacteria, viruses and proteins...I believe in your case,  your own body is probably acting against the proteins that  stop the body from having too many clots(i.e. Lupus  anticoagulant antibodies)  They're a number of different drugs to stop you body from  forming these dangerous clots.  Traditionally, clots were  fought with injectable Heparin(R) in the hospital and then  patients were made to stay on Oral tablets of Coumadin(R)  for 6 months or indefinitely.  Sometimes in the case of  severe clotting asprin(R) or a nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory drug was prescribed in addition to Coumadin.   In the the case of Autoimmune diseases, where the body is  basically beating itself up, other drugs were used to slow  the bodies own self inflicted damage (prednisone or Cytoxan  to slow the progression of the autoimmune damage) In very extreme cases of clotting, where a thrombus(a clot  that sticks itself to the wall of a blood vessel)is not  easily dissolved with medication, Dr's can actually go into  the blood vessel and bore through the clot and open up a  route for blood in a process called Angioplasty.   Traditionally, angioplasty was done on the vessels of the  heart to avoid by-pass surgery. In the case of severe emboli, when a clot breaks off from  the wall of a blood vessel and travels in the blood until  it gets stuck again in a narrow passage, I have two  thoughts:  1)The good news is that all blood has to got to  the heart and then to the lungs before it can reach the  brain...bad news is that the lungs don't like balls of  tissue in them either. 2)In cases of repeated clots being  sent to the lungs, I have seen where Dr's will actually  place a screen type filter in the Inferior Vena Cava which  is the blood vessel that collects blood from everything  below the heart.  This filter stops clots from reaching the  lungs or the brain and gives anticoagulant medication more  time to dissolve the dangerous clots.   Whatever the chosen therapy, it is likely that you are or  will be given compression devices (tight stockings or  serial air driven devices) that can help to keep the blood  flowing in your legs to diminish the chances of clots  forming...(some people will just where very tight tights of  something to be on the safe side until they get it all  figured out) We all wish you the best luck with kicking this thing.  If  you are comfortable, please let us know how you are doing.   PLEASE, PLEASE, ANYONE WHO WANTS VERY GOOD AND RELIABLE  MEDICAL INFORMATION  LOG ONTO WWW.EMEDICINE.COM AND PERFORM  A SEARCH OF THE DISEASE OR INJURY YOU ARE INTERESTED IN. ps. Jim go onto www.emedicine and perform a search for 1) Thrombolytic Therapy, 2)Deep Venous Thrombosis and  Thrombophlebitis, and 3)Pulmonary Embolism...If nothing  else, it may give you some questions to ask you doctor  about.                              Love Star and Jennifer ***This info. is by no means meant to replace anything that  your doctors may have planned for you, I can't be sure that  any or all of it applies to your situation and it is only  meant to take some of the mystery out of the medical  language that can be so confusing.****    - Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 22:37:38 (PST) Author: jennstar@calweb.com

Blood Clots!!

Hey Star! I understand your a genius!  I have the Lupus Anticoagulant  Anti-body. I also have a deficiency in my protein C.  This  has resulted in a 7 inch blood clot in my right thigh!  I  spent 4 days in the hospital in November, then I spent 6  days this past January.  How do I dissolve this clot! Last  November I had small pulmonary embolisms in my lungs. I'm joining the Peace Corps

Hey everybody- Andy Stevenson here!  Thats right, I am joining the Peace  Corps and will be going to Papua New Guinea!  I am going with my girlfriend Lynna Holland whom some of  you met at Matt & Amys wedding reception in Phoenix.  We will be in the PC for two years.  Our program is the  Rural Community Development.  I don't know what exactly we  will be doing within that program, but I will write and let  you all know.  I am not sure if I will have e-mail access  while I am there, so what I am planning to do is write  letters to my brother, Matt, and he will post them on this  site. That way you can keep up with how Lynna and I are  doing.  If all goes according to plan, I will be getting  out in May of 2002. While we are in Papau New Guinea, we would love to recieve  any letters from you guys.  Once I get there I will let  Matt know my address there and he will post it. Things have been pretty hectic for us for the past few  weeks with packing and getting our affairs in order for the  trip. I got a two year leave of absence from my job in the  U.S. Forest Service. If any of you take a trip out to Australia or PNG or that  part of the world in the next two years, please let us  know, we would be happy to meet up with you or have you  come visit us anytime. Sorry this letter is so short and hurried. Right now I am  in Seattle waiting to get on a plane in a few hours that  will take us to Sydney then PNG. Thank you to everyone who has wished me a BON VOYAGE! ;-)   Wow! It is SOOOOO GREAT to read all of these updates! Keep them coming!!  I have to work on this site to automate the archiving process I see, what with all of these letters! Congrats to Danny Stevenson and Jill Coppock on their soon to be Marriage...that is soo exciting! As to Debbie's question about how will I make a living, I started a business on the internet whereby I am an affiliate of a company that sells drugs online (They are called Kwikmed). As an affiliate  my task is to bring visitors from my site to their site. If the visitors that I direct from my site buy from them, I get a commission. I've become quite proficient at bringing buying customers  to their site and as a result I'm doing pretty good. You can see my site at: www.health.fairest.com . Hey family!

I wanted to let you know that I'm getting married March 11, 2000 at My Church in Clarkston. I am marrying Staci Hanna, a lady I have been dating since October 1998. Staci has 4 beautiful children and we will be living at 9426 Shady Grove CT., White Lake, MI 48386. We will be having a small wedding with our 8 children, brothers and sisters and Moms and Dad's and my side alone has 48 people!!! Our family just doesn't know what small is!! I am 36 and Staci is 30. I am so in love and committed and for the first time I am going to the alter with no duress. I wish everybody could celebrate with us, but financially it is not possible. I hope to see you at the Reunion this summer. A Letter from the Lyons Bunch!

Well... It's so nice to see the letters!!! Keep them coming  folks - that's what this website is intended for.. .right? Well, let's see, I'm 7 months pregnant - 38 years old and  have 7 other children - How the hell did grandma do it? And  I have all the modern conveniences to boot!!!  I'm not  complaining - things are great here - family life rolling  right along with lots of things ALWAYS going on! I'm very healthy - BIG - but healthy and can't wait for the  next 10 weeks to pass to see this little person inside of  me, the one that does jumping jacks and summer saults ALL  DAY AND NIGHT long - his/her favorite sport of course is  jumping up and down on my bladder - I'm really appreciating  this L A S T    pregnancy, seeing that it is my L A S T !!! Matt is doing great, He started is own business last March,  had some hills to climb that he didn't expect, but the out  look is GREAT. (Stonebrooke Development Company, L.L.C.) building custom home sites. Jake will be graduating from Catholic Central in May and  pretty sure he'll be going to Western Michigan University  in the fall.  Natalie, she has her permit (so does  courtney) and doesn't like to drive with me, I guess I make her nervous???? anyway she is in 10th grade and  gorgeous, dances 5 nights a week... (can't wait till she  can driver herself there)  Her dance competition will start  in March, I just Love it!!! school and dance and BOYS!!  keeps her busy - Courtney is doing well, adjusting to high  school - she keeps real busy with all her babysitting jobs  and then spends it on the free days :o)  she has a nice  boyfriend, who also ties up her time.  Bobby, well Bobby is  the same - high spirit, Happy ALL THE TIME, great kid - He  was voted School President - that was excited, he's had to  do a bunch of speeches, he didn't know he had to do, in  front of some pretty presitige groups of people.  At the  opening of the school (they have a new school), etc... he  always manages to find something appropriate to say and  does such a good job, he just makes everyone just love him!  (so i'm told when i walk into the school) :o)  i'm a proud  mommy...  anyway... ERic is planning on a big trip this  summer, he'll be going to Australia and New Zealand for 3  weeks, as a student ambassador (like Bobby did last year)  ONly eric's trip sounds 10x better - he's excited 'bout  that!  Jenni, just ended cheerleading, her group took 1st  place in a competition, she also dances and will compete a  little this year.  THat leaves Luke, he still has the  personality from i don't know where!  he did a performance  at christmas in front of everybody of Wild Wild West song -  would crack you up to see!  always pretending to be eating  bugs, like catapillers as noodles... big worms as sausage.  He just turned 3 and is quite big (42 lbs) but well  proportion - I love this age it's so FUN.. really! My mom just got back from a 2 week vacation in sunny  florida, she had a great time, I'll teach her how to write  a letter on this, I'm sure she has lots to share with you  all! For those of you who don't know yet, let me be the first,  My brother JIM is getting married to Staci Hanna on March  11th (as of now) He's been with staci for over a year and  loves her very much. Now if we can only get Bob married And  Lou a Baby (Lou says next year so they say...), it would be  really cool - i'm doing my best to put pressure on them  both - they both have AOL, so they too need to get there  butt in gear and add to this cool way of communicating  across the miles! I just hate this time of year - it's like we're all in  ibernation - you never see anyone... until summer - we  should have a February reunion (in a WARM SPOT!!!) Congratulations to Danny - it's always exciting to step  into the life of marriage - it can be awesome (and  sometimes not) but always WORTH the work...  Congratulations also to (uncle) Bob, Dan & John on there  new jobs! the change is exciting!! (& nerve racking...) Dan Who???

Hiya Kids, Hiya, Hiya, Hiya! Hi, Remember me? I'm the guy who used to rag on everybody  for not getting the old paper circle letter moving in a  timely fashion. Now we've had this electronic wonder for  what? five - ten years? and who's about the only one who  hasn't contributed yet? Well, the wait is over. I hired a ghost writer (actually  it's DAVE) to put out a letter under my name so I won't  have to live with the shame any longer. Believe it or not, people are still sending us pictures  from our Matt & Amy's reception so the happy memories just  keep coming.   Matt & Amy came down to Phoenix from Logan for Christmas.  Poor Amy got the flu and was sick the whole time they were  here. For the Millenium celebration, we went over to San Diego to  spend it with Nancy's Dad. Her sister Margie turned 50 on  Dec. 29th and she was there too. Nancy's sister Cathy came  over from Telluride - even Bob & Dianne joined us, so we  took her to dinner and had a great time. There was a New  Year's Eve celebration at the condo club house including  dinner and a Big Band Era DJ. Nancy's Dad (the youngest 87  year old in the world) wore everybody out dancing and  having a great time.  Our big news is that Andy and Lynna moved in with us the  week before Christmas in anticipation of leaving for the  Peace Corps. It's hard to believe, but it's already  February and, I'm sad to say, they leave tomorrow for Papua  New Guinea. Don't get me me wrong, we're very happy for  them and they are very excited about their new adventure,  it's just that we are going to really miss them. Hopefully,  we'll be able to go visit them a year from summer in  Australia. As soon as they find out where their permanent  assignment will  be, I'll send everyone their address. I'm  sure the longer they are out of the country the more they  will appreciate letters from home.  I started my new job a week after the reception and things  are going very well. The world of the Internet is  incredibly fast-paced and the last several months have been  a real whirlwind trying to keep up with the 20 somethings  who are running my company. If you get a chance, check out  our website. It's "PoliceOne.com" Well, Dave says he's getting blisters on his two typing  fingers and he has to go to the bathroom, so I'm going to  sign off so he'll quit whining. Gramma Sally says hello

Hi everyone !! I know most of you got our news letter but I wrote that so  long ago, I thought I'd update everyone again. First of all I know you all heard about T.J. and Keri.  As  far as we can tell, he seems to be doing really well.  We  all wish the best for Keri but you all need to know Tone  has not stopped writing music, gigging, spending time with  all his good friends and staying in contact with Ami Jane  and us. We're all going to see him at his new home in  Cambra CA (4 hours north of L.A.) We can not wait!! Ami and Matt are looking for a home or thinking of  building. Stevenson is soooo darn cute i have no words to  express it but you can imagine....we thought Jane was bad.  Anyway, we can't see him enough and Tony is way over the  top!! Hello it's me again (Dan),  Well I guess I lied (or just mistyped) about my wedding date in my last letter. We aren't really getting married on a Tuesday.  The date is October 7, 2000, which is a Saturday.  Again this is  the date for now and it could change. Changes

To my dear family, Well first of all there are a lot of exciting things going  on in the Stevenson family. I do not know where to start,  except to say congratulations to Amy and Matt on that  Stevenson kid. Way to go. Now watch your parents spoil the  hell out of him. Good luck and God speed to you Scott on your decision to  move to France. I think this is great. Mary and John, I am glad to see you have your first computer  and good luck to John on his new job. Well Danny is not the only guy in this family to start a new  job. I quit my job in December and I am now self-employeed. I am repping Ted Davis's companies along with a company out  of Singapore and I will be getting more companies as time  goes by. I will be doing a tremendous amount of traveling in  the coming months and hopefully I will visit an area of the  country where I have a relative. Everyone is doing well in our family. I believe I have the  only four year old grandson who has a motorcycle. The real  neat thing about this motorcycle is that it has training  wheels on it. Both Jake and Matt have bikes but Jake is  becoming quite the "dirt bike" rider. He has a Honda 50 and  it goes about 30mph. Scares the hell out of me. He has all  of the protective gear and his dad is teaching him properly.  Lets face it Gregg and Laura have the perfect yard for dirt  bikes. Well i will cut this off and say I love you all. Think LOTTERY for upcoming family events to help defray the  cost of such things as Family Reunion Alabama and House  Boating on Lake Mead. We really need to make this work for  everyone who wants to participate. Hello from Highland

Hello to whomever is reading this... this is John and Mary anong with news about all of us... this first letter will  be quick as I am getting ready for work and have just a  minute.  We are doing good. John has started full time at Amerisure and has stopped working for the maintenance co. D & K  who got him into Amerisure part time last May. He was working in the same building 1/2 days for D&K and  the other 1/2 for Amerisure but as of 1-17-2000 Amerisure  hired him to a brand new position full time with benefits, vacation pay,even a retirement plan!!!  I am still office mgr. at the Brighton Eye Clinic, Sarah is in 10th grade at Milford High.She's been dating Nick ( he's a senior) for about 7 months and he's a great kid!! Coal is  very involved with his band CALLING MARVIN and he has his  own website www.callingmarvin.com check it out sometime it's very cool!! occasionally John and I still perform musically and we do play Sundays at a small church by our house and  have been writing more songs since we started there one  year ago.  Well...I said this was going to be short but... Boston Bound

Just when I thought my little business trip was  exciting...Scott announces his move to France. Upstaged  again!!  This family network is so huge I thought this worth  asking, "anyone live in Boston?". I will be flying out on  Tuesday for a business meeting on Thursday. This leaves me  all of Wednesday, the 26th, the try to see the city and some  history. Since I rarely travel alone (ha! I rarely travel)  and I think it's freezing there (compared to California) I'm  looking for hints on what to see, where to go or not to go,  etc. Any and all information appreciated!! Yeah Danny !!!

Congrats to Danny & Jill! We are all so excited for them.  It was really fun for all of us (us being the Tom & Esther  branch) to be together when Danny asked Jill. We were all  going out to a party on New Year's eve, and he did it right  as we were getting ready to leave. Anyway, it was fun for  the rest of us as well! Scott, sounds like you've got a lot of change coming. Do it  now while you still can- it's the adventure of a lifetime!  How will you make a living there? Congrats, and keep us  posted. Things here at the Canton Stevenson's are going well. we've  been fighting that awful Michigan flu for a few weeks.  We've all been taking turns with it, and a couple of the  kids turned into Bronchitis, blah, blah,blah. With 3 kids 4  and under, I feel like we live at the doctor's office  lately! Now it looks like Jessica (2 1/2) might have asthma  as well. At least most of our illnesses are common, and  treatable! Mike is finally slowing down around the house. For those of  you that don't know, we built a 500 sq. ft. addition on the  house this summer. We had a lot of fun, but also stress(!)  doing it. Mike did a lot of the work himself, and used his  many contacts for the things he needed help with. We did  have a big family weekend in July, and many family &  friends came and helped out. It was fun! Deb is busy with Nursery School, her crafts, and  basically "just" being a Mom. She is getting ready to start  selling Partylite candles, also. If anyone is interested,  just let her know! Wedding News!!

Hello Family!! It's me Dan (Tom and Esther's youngest). For those of you who haven't heard yet I'm getting married. Her name is Jill Coppock. She lives in Salisbury.  Works in a medical office. Her measurements are:  (just kidding) I would have put this out earlier but I just recently got on the net. Right now the date is going to be October 10, 2000. That could change depending on all the factors that go into planning a wedding.   I met Jill in 1998.  She was a friend of a friend.  I had met her a couple of times, but no big deal.  Then when I went back to work at Mulligan's, she was working there. Moving to France!

I hope this letter finds everyone safe and sound and  healthy. I'm happy to know that Jeanne doesn't appear to be  suffering any more ill effects of the heart  problem....hallelujah Jeanne!  I've decided to move to France after all!  I've got my plane ticket and I have my storage arrangements  made for the stuff I will leave behind here. I'm sooo  excited! After spending the new year in Paris (and also  going through that terrific wind storm) I decided that I  needed to live there.  I'm moving on February the 13th (next month). I'm going to  start out in Toulouse in the south of France. I met a girl  there named Olivia Angles and she could be THE ONE ;-) . I  have a funny feeling about her. She's this beautiful,   intelligent, and generous girl who is studying English at  School in Toulouse. I've talked to her about moving with me  to Paris and she seemed interested in the idea...we'll see.  Just so folks know however, I had decided to move to France  before meeting her. My original plan was to come back from  the new year there and get my affairs sorted here and then  move there in the Summer but after meeting Olivia, I decided  to move back sooner to not miss my chance to be with her.  I'm going to miss my family and friends here, but I'm keen  to live in the French culture and learn the French lifestyle  and language. I'm taking a French conversation course right  now (till I leave). While I was there I was surprised at how  much French I could talk (from the previous French course I  had taken). I've wondered why I have such a strong feeling for France  and I can only figure that it must be a remnant of my French  blood from Grandma(Eunice)....the Le Duc side.  So I was thinking, once I have an apartment set up and have  a stable living arrangement maybe I could propose to host  family members (much like Tony and Sally did in Switzerland)  who want to come to France. When I was in Paris, I thought  about how cool it would be to be a sort of tour guide and  show people around some in Paris...or another part of  France. I'll keep everyone posted and once I'm set make the  formal invitation.  Ok, enough for this letter, Folks please write back let us know how each of us is  doing!! A Letter From Paris (Happy Holidays!)

Happy Holidays to all of the family! Scott here, in Paris. Having a good time here. I spent Christmas eve and Christmas Day with my friend  Brendan and his extended family, about an hour south of  Paris in a little town called Melun. It was quite a  pleasure and his family was very welcoming and generous.  I missed my own immediate family a bit (Mom and Dad, Jerry,  Cindy, Nick, Lindsay, Star, Jennifer, Zip, Liz, Sophie, etc  etc.) but it's a great pleasure to be here.  I'm writing this letter from a cafe that is just 100 yards  from the Arc d' Triomph. This cafe is having some sort of  promotion for AOL so they offer 1 half hour of internet use  for free. And there computers are fast! I'm lucky! I hope everyone had a nice Christmas Holiday!  I've been hanging out with my friend Brendan and meeting  some of his friends. I went down to the Arc de La Defense  the other day and checked out a sculpture(Stabile) by  Calder, and the great Arc...very impressive! Hopefully I will meet some friends that I spent time with  the last time I was in Paris.  It's funny but I really feel at ease here. It almost seems  like I should be living here or something. I'm sure in the  future I will live here in Paris...or the surrounding area. Marathon First In California

Jennifer and I just finished our first 26.2 mile  marathon.  We ran in the California International Marathon  from the City of Folsom to the capital in Sacramento!  We  were horribly undertrained for the event (we jogged/walked  12 miles once a week leading up to the big race)but we were  able to finish in 5 hours and 36 minutes.  Mainly we just  wanted to do a marathon together...The first 11 miles were  fun, the next 5 were enlightening and the last 10 were a  gut check challenge!  The winner ran the 26.2 mile course  in 2 hours and 13 minutes. We are now thinking about  training for the Napa Marathon in March. The next marathon  we will probably run separate, and take much more  seriously.       Jennifer is finishing her first quarter of Vet.  school.  She is doing extremily well, with only  biochemistry presenting a challenge.  As for me, I have  finished my last semester of School with only a semester of  clinical rotations left.  I will be interning at a sports  clinic for 6 week, then a trama unit on a ICU/wound care  team, and finally I will do 6 weeks at UC Davis Medical  Center in Sacramento working on a spinal cord injury unit.      We hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season!                                Love, Star and Jennifer - Wednesday, December 08, 1999 at 10:47:46 (PST) Author: jennstar@calweb.com

Happy 27th to Star!!! (we normally celebrate it on Thanksgiving but it's actually the 23rd). Star, you're rocking in the knowledge department my man. When I read the info that you gave information it really was apparent how well you are doing in you drive to become a doctor (school etc.)! The way you put the info together was so flowing and professional, I'm sure you'll make a great doc! Jeanne, I already sent you a letter but I want to say it again for emphasis, "I hope that whatever this thing is gets settled and that you get better as soon as possible". It seems like you are in capable hands with the doctors that you're talking with. And once you have the heart rate monitor, you'll really be able to keep track of yourself and your heart. I wish you all of the success in staying healthy. I had such a good time with you, Tommy, and the kids when I was there, it really saddened me to hear of your difficulty. More on Mitral Valve Prolapse

Jeanne:       I am glad that your Dr. is having you were a heart  monitor...It is common for some people to have irregular  heart rhythms under very specific conditons.  Having the  heart monitor should provide some anwsers as to when you  might get your irregular rhythms.       Cindy's suggestion to check into Mitral Valve  Prolapse is a very good one, especially if you were ever  having generally fast heart beats and not just specifically  fast ventricular heart beats or heart beats initated in the  ventricles of the heart.(Ventricular Tachycardia)   In reality their are a number of reasons why the heart may  have an irregular rhythm at times.  The following is some  information paraphrased from a book  called "PATHOPHYSIOLOGY - The Biologic Basis for Disease in  Adults and Children" Mitral Valve Prolapse is a condition where a valve  separating the smaller atrium pump from the lower ventricle  pump gets stuck in a very small partial opening...So when  the heart tries to pump blood out into the body from the  large left ventricle some of the blood actually goes  backward into the smaller left atrium...the bottom line is  that it can be an additional small strain on the heart. The extremily great news is that it is very, very common  and most people with MVP experience NO PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS! Mitral valve prolapse tends to be most prevelent in young  women and as Cindy suggested it is suspected of having a  genetic link.  Mitral Valve Prolapse is often associated  with other inherited connective tissue  disorders...disorders that affect bone and muscle but not  nervous or brain tissue (FYI- Mitral valve prolapse is  associated with Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome,  and Osteogenesis imperfecta - or "brittle bones") There  also may be a relationship between symptomatic mitral valve  prolapse and hyperthyroidism...I wouldn't be surprised if  your irregular rhythms continued that your Dr. might  perform a thyroid screen to rule out any thyroid  involvement.  The symptoms of MVP include dysrhythmias(irregular heart  beats), TACHYCARDIA(fast beats not neccesarily from the  ventricles, light-headedness, syncope(fainting),fatique (especially in the morning), lethargy, weakness, dyspnea (difficulty breathing), chest tightness, hyperventilation,  anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and atypical chest  pain.   It's high incidence rate suggests the MVP may be a normal  alteration rather than some pathological/diseased condition. Echocardiograms are the best procedure for diagnosing the  disorder.   As far as special precautions with MVP, some people are  given antibiotics, especially before any invasive  (surgical) procedures are done (i.e. dental work!) I had mentioned that Beta blockers are used to block the  ease with which that heart can be excited with Ventricular  Tachycardia and Beta blockers are sometimes used with MVP  to alleviate fainting, chest pain, or "skipping heart beats" Keep us posted!                        love Star - Monday, November 22, 1999 at 19:51:59 (PST) Author: jennstar@calweb.com

More about the Heart

Other Possibilities I've been reading the input from Jeanne and Star about the  accelerated heart rhythms. Something that has not been  mentioned, (and could well be totally off track), is mitral  valve prolapse? I just mention it because it is a condition  that my mother and sisters share, but confused us for years.  My sister, Deb, suffered from anxiety attacks for years,  which is the extreme. Out of nowhere her heart rate would  accelerate, as if in the "fight or flight' mode, and she  would become terrified. Mitral Valve Prolapse is a leaky  heart valve which allows adrenaline to flow at completely  unexpected moments. It's hereditary, so most likely you'd  already know if your family had a history of it. For Debbie  it caused extreme anxiety. For my Mother it only causes  moments of accelerated heart rate. Depending upon the  severity of the case, the symptoms differ. It's not a life  threatening condition. My sister takes special precautions  when having dental work done, but the biggest inconvenience  is simply dealing with the unexpected onset of adrenaline  rushes.  I've heard there are certain physical traits that women with  this condition share. Slight curvature of the spine  (scoliosis) and small breasts (HA....like I said, my Mom and  my sisters have this). All of the above information has been  passed from one family member to the other, so I'm not  completely confident of the accuracy BUT I still thought it  worth throwing out there as a possibility.  Hope all is well. Star baby, awesome knowledge. Wah wah wah.  You continue to impress.  Signing off-- Cindy Roach - Friday, November 19, 1999 at 21:04:07 (PST) Author: roachotl@pacbell.net

HEART-felt thanks!

Thank you for the many e-mails, thoughts, prayers and phone  calls over the last week. It really helped having the  support from family and friends that care so much.  It was a stressful several days but I have good news! During the test in the hospital, my doctor could not  recreate the arrythmia. Which, he says, is good news. They  did put three catheters in my leg and one in my chest. I was  asleep during the entire thing - no pain at all. The most  pain I experienced was when the nurse put the IV in. I have  narrow veins to begin with and not having anything to drink  for 15 hours made for a slight challenge. I'm going into the cardiologist's office next week to get a  monitor to wear for a few weeks which will record any  suspicious activity. If nothing shows up, my doctor says we  won't have a need to be concerned. It scares me a little why did my heart act so erratically  during my stress test.  Was it just a fluke? (They  originally said it couldn't be a fluke.)  If nothing else shows up, I'll have to believe it was the  many prayers that were said. And, I thank you all for  THAT!!! Ventricular Tachycardia Concerns

Dear Jeanne,       Ventricular Tachycardia is much more common than you  would think.  In fact I believe Bob Stevenson has had  intermittent troubles with VTach. If you think of the heart  as being two small pumps on two very large pumps, then the  Atria are your two small pumps and your Ventricles are your  two large pumps. Normally a piece of tissue in your right  atria called the SA node (sinoatrial node) sets the pace of  your heart via Vagus nerve stimulation.  Normally this  tissue causes a spread of electrical stimulation to reach  to the lower parts of the heart in a process  called "depolarization" It is sort of like throwing a rock  out into a pond and the waves spread out in all directions  from where the rock landed. When this electrical  stimulation reaches the larger and lower pumps of the heart  (the ventricles) the ventricles contract and pump the  oxygenated blood that has arrived from your lungs and pumps  it out to your whole body for fuel utilization.  During  Ventricular Tachycardia, instead of the normal pacemaker of  the heart, something has caused a super excitation of the  lower heart and now the powerful ventricular pumps are  leading the way.     Everyone's heart normally beats faster when we are  exctied, you might remember the phrase "fight or flight".   Basically this implies that we get a rush of adrenaline  (epinephrine) or Norepinephrine when we are confronted with  a physical challenge.  These "adrenalines" are what the  medical community calls Beta 1 neurotransmitters.  Some  individuals are placed on "Beta Blockers" to help the  control the pace and dampen the excitation of the heart.   There are probably a number of medications that can help to  pace the heart.  In the mean time it is probably a good  idea to monitor (REDUCE) your intake of additional  stimulates like CAFFEINE and EPINEPHRINE and NOREPINEPHRINE  FOUND IN MANY COLD MEDICATIONS, AND ASTHMA MEDICATIONS.   Other things that can cause this super excitation of the  heart include LOW LEVELS OF SERUM POTASSIUM FOUND IN  BANNANA, AND KIWIS, amphetamines, cocaine, hyperthroidism,  and to a small extent a lack of oxygen to the heart as  found in Coronary Heart Disease.  The heart receives its  own blood from the cornary arteries that surround and  infiltrate it's stucture, if these are partially blocked  then the heart is low in oxygen content and in response it  tries to beat extremily fast to make up for what it  perceives to be a lack of oxygen.     Normally that heart rarly beats faster than 220-your  age, for you this would be 220-36 or 164 BEATS PER MINUTE.  Only during vigorous exercise in trained athletes or during  extremily exciting intimate relations does the heart  maintain beats over the 200 per minute mark. The danger in  these extraoridinaryly fast beats is that the big pumps  (ventricles) don't even have enough time to fill with blood  from your lungs and body before they contract, to send  blood they should have, out to the waiting tissues. This  can lead to Ventricular Fibrillation where the heart more  or less is without rhythm and the body and the brain are no  longer receiving consistent blood and oxygen.    It sounds like you are on the right track with your  doctors. I have personally witnessed a number of bizarre  stress tests (electrophysiological testing) in very healthy  individuals.  Some people will only get these bizarre  irregular heart beats during stress (exercise); until you  get more information from your doctors it is a good idea to  try and pace your stenous activities and really try to tune  into when you feel your irregular beats...sit down, relax  take a few breaths then when you feel you are back to your  baseline continue what you were doing while monitoring your  heart rate.     Most good athletic stores carry heart rate monitors that  can be strapped around your chest and transmitted to a  wrist watch (polar band is good)for under $100.  Might be  something to look into if the condition continues.      Realize that in medicine, it is often the squeaky wheel  that gets oiled!  LET US KNOW AS SOON AS YOU HAVE A  DEFINATIVE DIAGNOSIS AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE TROUBLE!                                 LOVE STAR STEVENSON PS. Call me if you want to talk about the results of your  medical visits or for further information.(530)757-1260 - Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at 21:49:59 (PST) Author: jennstar@calweb.com

Medical Info

To my family and friends  We're now consumed by a medical issue. I went in last Friday for a stress test. The average  36-year-old doesn't need one, but I really wanted one. I  have been having a weird sensation after going up the  stairs, more than just the normal huffing and puffing from  carrying countless loads of laundry to and from the  basement. My internist, Dr. Papo whom I think is wonderful,  recommended a stress test. I didn't even have to ask. This  sensation coupled with my Dad's heart history was good  enough reason to have one. In the third stage of the stress test, my heart rate went  from 165 bpm to 233 bmp. The tech immediately took me off of  the tread mill and the doctor did a carotid massage to slow  down my heart rate. Keep in mind I was only going in for "piece of mind," NOT to  find anything serious.  Rather than waiting a few weeks for the next available  appointment for further testing, they moved a consultation  to two days later, which will be followed by an EP  (Electrophysiology) study (Wed., Nov. 17). This is an  invasive test where catheters are used to find the cause of  Ventricular Tachycardia (rapid heart rate)  possibly  finding an extra pathway in the heart. I'll be in the  hospital at least for several hours, possibly overnight.  (This test has nothing to do with my Dad's heart condition.) It seems there are drugs to treat this, and also other  procedures that can cure it. It still is very scary! A Letter from the Lyons

Hello All! Hope everyone is doing well... Where have the letters  been?  Love to hear all the news on whats going on - well  if everyone has been as busy as we have this past summer,  than it is understandable. My new name is Nancy "I'll Do  IT!" Lyons, I seemed volunteered for everything this year!  I planned a Lyons family Week Long Reunion, the Boudreau  Family Reunion, Picture swapping Picnic at my house" plus I  was on the committee for my 20 year class reunion.  I must  say all functions were a big success and a lot of fun!   Plus on top of all that, we had a vacation, dance camp,  football camp, cheerleading camp and tennis!  It's kinda  nice that school is back, to relax! Luke is getting big, he's 38x38... 38 pounds by 38 inches  and he's 2 1/2 years old.  He's got the cutest personality,  of course I would say that!  He loves to sing songs, not  nursery songs, like his favorites are, Will Smith, and  Lenny Cravitts latest songs...? and I listen to Country -  so go figure. He loves to dance as well, he loves to watch  NaNa (Natalie) and mimic her.  Natalie, just started her  13th year of Dance - she's very good.  She did a lot of  competing, in which she recieve numerous GOLDS and did lots  of shows, including a show at the State Fair, to end the  season.  I'm always excited to have a new season of dance  start!  She's has her driving permit.. YIKES!! Jake turns  18 today, along with my mom, who's a very young 57!  Jake  is completing his senior year at Catholic Central and he's  playing both sides of the ball in football, they are hoping  for a threepeat, in the state champs for football!!! Bobby  and Eric are in football, of course, any sport that is  going on they participate in. Bobby went to Europe for 3  weeks to start the summer off... He went as an Ambassodor,  doing extensive traveling through England, then through  Denmark, Sweden, and Norway - he had a wonderful  experience.  He went with 35 other kids and gets a high  school credit for it. (that's the why I Picture Swapping  Picnic).  Jenni' is cheerleading and dancing too.  Oh my  gosh... I forgot to mention the biggest news -                   WE'RE HAVING A BABY... Yep that's right - matt and I and I guess the whole gang,  we're going to have another baby - it wasn't exactly  planned, but how wonderful to have God hand pick me to have  another one of his miracles!!!!  If it's not too late, I believe i'm going to come out for  the festivities in October for Matt and Amy! just me -  can't wait to see everyone! Okay - i did my part, adding to the circle letter - lets  see those letters and hear what everyone is doing and  what's going on.  I left out a lot, but with so many people  here, this letter would just never end! Bob Dougherty

My Uncle Bob Dougherty took his last breath yesterday  morning (Sunday May 30) at 9:42 am, and has gone home to be  with God.  He will be greatly missed by all!   He was moved to a hospice center this past Friday, and spent  his last night with his 2 grandsons camped in a pup tent  outside his room. David Burton (his son-in-law) was alone in  the room with Bob holding his hand during his final minutes.   David said Bob went peacefully. Visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday and his funeral  will be Friday.   My Aunt Lizzy's address is: 14463 Melrose Livonia, Michigan 48154 Thank you for all your thought and prayers for him and his  family. Tommy,    I'm so sad to hear of your uncle Bob Dougherty's case.  For those of us who may be unaware CJD is the human  equivalent of BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephelopathy...  otherwise known as Mad Cow Disease).  I'm sorry to hear that prognosis, it isn't so good. Bob Dougherty Update

This week the test results have come back.  He has a disease  called CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease). This is a brain  deteriorating disease which has no cure.  He has gotten  worse very quickly.  Later this week he will be re-located  to Angela Hospice center in Livonia.  The doctors feel he  has only about a month or less left.  His condition today is  similar to Grandma's last couple weeks. He is in no pain -  which is a blessing, but has lost the ability to do anything  and can no longer eat or speak  (a few syllables on  occasion, but it is difficult). Looking for faithful Support

A simple request.  My Uncle Bob Dougherty (Lizzy's  husband) is having some pretty serious health problems.  Please add him and his family to your prayers.   About three weeks ago he began having some trouble  walking, Drs. thought possible brain tumor activity (he had  one successfully removed 20 years ago) they thought it was  back.  This does not appear to be the case.  They are now  calling it a "degenerative brain disease", though are still  not certain what it is. He can now no longer control his  arms or legs at all.  He is hospitalized at U of M and the  long term prognosis is not very good at this time.  This is  a very rough time for his family as you can well imagine.   For a healthy man to be come completely disabled and  unable to care for himself in three weeks is mind boggling.  He is alert and sound mentally, and according to Mary still  has a great sense of humor, he had her and Doug cracking up  last night when they visited him. (He has a few small lapses  here and there, but basically his mind is sharp.)  More test results are expected over the course of the week. Hopefully we will find out what it is soon. In the meantime I know we can count on your thoughts and  prayers for him and his family as well as his doctors. Thank You May Never Be Enough

Well, Wow, how can I, We, possible ever thank  all of yo enough for your tremendous love and support!   We are SOOO Blessed! Chris and I returned home from our honeymoon late Saturday night, and hung out Sunday  just sort of in a happy daze remembering all of  the events that went on during our wedding weekend. We will probably never be able to adequately  express how much all of you mean to us -  and how very grateful we are that so many of you  were here to be apart of us becoming "The Palmers"!   We had an absolute blast! The music was so outstanding that any of you  who want to come here on a visit again can be paid to work, just give us a little advance notice -  We have had several requests already!   And for those of us who are not the musical ones,  it seemed to me that everytime I looked around  I just saw a bunch of people having lots of fun!  Yeah!  That is exactly what we hoped for -  a big fun party!   And you all helped to make that possible. Now, to get a little mushy - but just for a second -  I love this great big family of ours - every single  one of you, but I feel exceptionally blessed to have  the brothers and sisters that I have!  And wow,  how about my parents?  You guys are the BEST!!   You are all so very wonderful, and then to top it all  off - you married those cool people, and gave us  all of these great kids!  I am so glad that I got to add another nice member to the mix! Friday, May 7, 1999 Dear, dear, dear traveling family and friends: Mary, Doug, Melissa, Mike, Mitch,Tommy, Jeanne, Sophie, Carly, Dillon, Mike, Debbie, Julia,  Jessica,Baby Michael, Lizzy, Colleen, David, Ben,  Conner,Jenna, Janie, Amy, Tim, Judy, Scott, Nancy, Brian, Nancy, Matt. L.Thomas, Lou, Kathleen, Bob, Diane,Gregg, Laura, Kelly, Madison, Dan, Mary, John,  Sarah,Colin & band, Sally, Tony, AmiJane, T.J.,Terry,  Chris,Leah, Gerry, Kelly, Tom, Judy, Dennis, Sharon, Tom,Pat,Mary Ann, Frannie, Bill, Elaine, Carolyn, Bill,Roy and Nelda, It is now Friday morning and the last of our wedding  company left yesterday afternoon. So Sad! Tom has gone  back to work, the yard is  all cleaned up, the trash is gone, I don't hear any music, there is NO trace of  what went on here last Saturday. Someone even took our tent ! I wanted to keep it so in case a party breaks  out, we'd be ready ! There aren't enough words to thank all of you for the  efforts that you made to be here to celebrate with Jenny and Chris. Thank you, thank you, thank you. As I have said many times..when an event is out of town, I truly expect NO ONE. Then when anyone is able  to come...that is cause for celebration. As we heard  of each one of you responding that you would be here,  believe me, we were celebrating !!!! To the musical family:  there are times when we just  think we should be in attendance for a family event  because that is what families are supposed to do for each other....with regard to THIS family, I also think that this family just LOVES a good party!!!... excuse me.....this family IS a good party. And all of  us hate to ever miss one ! Seeing Jenny and Chris's wedding, and all of those  weddings of family and friends before them, is a reason why I don't like to see a couple go off to Vegas or the local justice of the peace, and just get married quickly. I LOVE these public declarations and celebrations with  family and friends sharing the joy. Just look at the strength that Jenny and Chris got from all of these people gathering together and supporting them in their new adventure.. Just your very presence said "We are so  happy for you". What memories they will have for a lifetime. In fact, I spent most of yesterday putting all of the wedding pictures that I took into an album...FOURTEEN rolls  !!! What a nice story they tell.....from planting flowers  in the yard...to Jenny and Chris at the airport leaving for  their honeymoon. To our musical family...You are now the talk of  Salisbury ! We are getting such fun feed back. The  locals are in awe of the talent in this family. Sadly, a friend asked Kathy, "And what do YOU do?"  I told her to tell them that  that the musical Stevensons need people like she and I for applause !  You guys couldn't do what you do without an audience  like us ! That's why you have in-laws! Terry, I know that before every wedding, you always  say that this will be the last one for you. I know that putting it all together is very stressful for you. That makes me appreciate it all the more. You make it come off like it was no effort at all.  I love you for it. Please don't ever stop !!! (At least not until all of MY kids are married!) Nancy, thanks for "Surely The Presence Of The Lord  Is In This Place". That was such a nice surprise  (and so true). I know that you think of me when you do "my" special songs. I really appreciate it. And  "Listen To My Heart" was phenomenal. Nancy LaMott would be smiling down on you. Mary...will we ever be able to hear your beautiful "Wind Beneath My Wings" without crying ?  You do it so beautifully, you bring down the house every time! Leah....most of you probably aren't aware of this little story.....Several weeks before the wedding Jenny heard a song on the radio, "On The Side Of Angels".  All she could think of was Leah's sweet voice singing  it. So she called Leah. Leah didn't know it but she  said that she would learn if. So with a little help  from Daddy, Terry, she did a beautiful job of it for  Jenny and Chris. Thanks, Leah. Great job! Most weddings have one band, and maybe a singer,  or a DJ...not us, we go from Terry to Doug and Mary's band, then to Colin and T.J. YIKES !!!! It was  wonderful. One of the comments we have heard around town was "I would have PAID to hear all that music!" If pride is a sin, I am in BIG trouble, because I was so proud to show off all of my family. And then there is Chris at the microphone singing "My Brown Eyed Girl". That warmed this mother's heart. That was fun. Welcome to the family, Chris! We're so  glad that you're our son-in-law and our neighbor! The only regret after an event like this is that there never seems to be enough time to spend with everyone. I know that I was visiting the whole time, loving every  minute of it, and I never stayed in one place very long, but still I think now of all the people that I didn't get  to spend more time with. Thay makes me  feel sad. But  now that you have all seen our cute little yellow house, and our huge yard, and all that our area has to offer, I  hope you will ALL come back and then we can really have  quality time. PLEASE!!! You are welcome anytime. I loved that so many of you went off in different directions during your stay here. Some went to the ocean,  to Assateague Island to see the wild ponies, Chincoteague  Island, downtown Salisbury, antiquing, the Salisbury  Festival, church, golfing, the mall, Libertino's, Seacrets, the Zoo, the Red Roost for crabs, etc, etc, etc. I loved knowing that you were all in OUR neighborhood  having your own good times. Like a Mom who is smiling when  her little kids are out playing happily ! The whole event was unforgettable for us, from all of the  preparation, to the Wednesday before when Nancy and Brian  and our Michigan kids arrived to the Thursday after when Frannie and Bill left. Now we anticipate Jenny and Chris  arriving home tomorrow night to start their new life together just down the street from us. What fun!!! My philosophy is that all that really matters at a  wedding is that the couple is happy with each other. Anything else is just fluff. What fun fluff we had !!! May 6, 1999 Dear Family, Well we too would like to say "ONE HELL OF A PARTY". April 26, 1999 Aloha Family, Scott, you have done an amazing new job on the circle letter. I remember thinking we should have a C.D. to hand a new family member like Matt so he could figure out who everyone is and how they are related plus be able to add on new babies or new spouses so everyone especially the out of towners could keep track and here is something even better. I am so grateful for at least now I have a chance at keeping up with faces and names and from here on out every growing child or new member that is interested can get the history. Is this new age or what? We had a faboulous trip to L.A. All the grandchildren and paerents are happy and healhthy. Sophie is perfect. She is so contented and smiles big open mouth smiles all the time with the slightest encouragement. Liz and Zip along with Liz's mom from Japan who helped them the first few months have done a faboulous job! Zip took T.J., Jimmy, and us to lunch outdoors on the Palisdases so we got to see that handsome T.J. too and catch up a little on his and Kerry's life. They were going to The Big Island for four nights and five days the very next day as Kerry was ready for some relaxing time. He also told us Ami is pregnant so the family continues to grow and grow like a beautiful blooming tree of life. Dear Family, Scott here again. Welp, I've been working on that automated photo process for putting pictures up on the web site and now I have something to show! Please send more pictures ........now more than ever. The new system I've put together allows me to quickly put up new pictures so I'm raring to throw up some more ;-) I hope to automate the process to allow family members to upload pictures directly to the web site and then add info to the pictures all automatically through the web. I've been writing the new parts of the site to accomodate family members in that sort of endeavor so when I've got that all worked out I'll let everyone know. Hello Everyone, It is so great to be able to communicate to our family via the world wide net. Suzanne was E-filing her taxes using our computer at home and having a rough time of it so we stopped by Sonoma State University computer lab so she could finish up. Hi everyone!! Tone and I finally got back on line. It's taken us soo long. We just downloaded aol 4.0 and that's going to take some time to get use to also. We thought coming home would be so easy and we'd pick up right where we left off but to tell you the truth, it's been more work then we thought, there's not enough hours in the day to feel "settled in" and to top it all off....Our STUFF from england is in 230 boxes !!! A whole household of things coming into a house already over flowing and bursting at the seems (T.J. says it's beginning to look like a gift shop)!!! To say the least we'll be doing some weeding out of alot of things. People are waiting in line. Besides, new home, new eara, new home ideas. My most favorite thing in the world is putzing around the house, fixing and changing. Soon we'll be making a nursery. Can you believe it?!"£$%^?! We have been so blessed. A Roach in the house!

Hi Everyone, Just a quick hello for my first entry. I've been reading these for months now and it's been killing me not to participate!! That's just not like me at all. I just know so few of you (even after over 20 years in the family)! Jerry and I have this "Spring Break" week off with the kids. We've been clearing ground in the back yard for a new addition....a 13'x17' above ground pool. The kids are ecstatic! In addition Jerry has been stressing over, and preparing for, interviews for a Supervisors position with The City of Santa Rosa. He's been doing the job for the last 3 years without the benefit of the title or the pay....and now there is this long, drawn out application/interview process....driving us all crazy. Anyway, we are very confident in him and have NO doubt about the outcome of all this bureaucracy (but it's torture!). Looking forward to hearing TJ's new CD. My sister alreay has her order in and is sending ME information about it. How's that for pitiful? Hey Star....the return to running is slow but sure. I injured my back in a sledding accident back in December and I'm just now starting to feel my old running stride returning. My lower back still freezes up...but the rest of my body eventually warms up and the form returns. It's such an addiction, that running stuff, and so humbling to return to. ALOHA FROM SANTA ROSA, CA.

April 7, l999 ALOHA FROM SUZANNE, I tried to put something on the circle letter before but it didn't work out. Now that James is selling at the river I can get some time on the computer. Hope everyone had a faboulous Easter! We hope to go to L.A. soon to see the family and especially our beautiful new grandaughter. Spring is springing like crazy here. We have yellow tulips blooming by the mail box and red tulips by the bird bath. The wild plum trees and yellow acachia trees are almost finished blooming but they were beautiful while they lasted. My gastro intestinal problem is getting better after three months. I've had all kinds of tests but they still don't know what is wrong with me so I go back to the G.I. doctor and start over. I'm having a mamogram on the 14th and I hope all of our females are doing the same. An acquitance of mine has 7 to 9 months to live from breast cancer unless one of these new drugs work. It is so shocking. I remember when Esther had a friend with it and reminded us all to do and have out exams. It's not painful. Uncomfortable maybe but you feel so good afterwards that you had it done. Do it for yourself and your beautiful families. We are so grateful Jennifer got accepted to the Davis Vet. program. It is so hard to get in let alone at this University. Our little yorky/maltese dogs Muppy and Puppy are great and so much company for us since our children are grown. Welcome to Some more Family! (and Revisions to the site)

Hello Folks, Scott here, with a big warm welcome to Bob & Diane and Star & Jennifer Stevenson!!! It was great to read letters from both of you! To uncle Bob, not bad for your FIRST letter ;-) . It's a pleasure to hear about those second cousins of mine (plus to hear about the first cousins). Ok, next it's Diane's turn to add to this letter....that would be nice. Say hello to Mimi for me you two....she sure is plucky! To Jennifer (Ogne-) Stevenson, A big CONGRATULATIONS on you acceptance to Davis....that is soooo exciting!!! It's nice to see you and Star joining the fray here on the family circle letter. Wow, so much is happening!!! On my last letter I talked about working on a web-site for a company called Motion Analysis.... I worked up a demo for what should become the first page a person sees when they enter their site. They've postponed my further working on it until towards the end of this month :-( but they haven't canceled their plans to have me upgrade their site :-) . To Nancy Lyons....thanks to you, Matt and your family for the donation of money for this site.....it will go directly to pay for the dues for this! Hey Jenny....how ya doin? I bet you're getting more and more excited and nervous as May 1st draws near?? eh? That will be such fun! And now the part about revisions done to this site, this explanation may be a little technical...sorry: I've heard from a number of people about how after they've typed a letter and hit the submit button to add it to the circle letter...they haven't been able to see their addition. I believe I've figured out a way around this difficulty. What the problem has been is this: when a page is viewed in a browser....the browser 'remembers it' usually temporarily. When you've just added something to the circle letter and go to look at it, rather than the browser loading the new letter fresh, it goes to it's 'memory' to load the letter....only the 'memory' is old (this memory is known as cache). What I've done is written a little program that makes the browser 'think' that it is loading a completely new page, in essenscence one that it hasn't 'remembered' such that it should always load the fresh new letter. I hope that wasn't too technical. Anyways in order to see the most current letter we can either follow the link in the "There's a new letter on the circle letter" update or just go here: http://www.sonic.net/sunshine/rand.cgi Also, after you've submitted a letter be sure to follow the 'see the letter here' link on the status page. That should always make our web browsers pull up the most current letter. A first for Bob

March 30, 1999 To my loving family, This is my very first real letter on the internet and I hope it goes through. Diane and I are doing just fine. Her mom is holding her own and still eating up a storm. Gregg, Laura, Jake, Matt and Dan are always busy . The boys are getting to be grown up men. Jake is playing T-ball and doing just fine. Matt is 200% boy and always entertaining. Danny is getting his own personallity and is a cute as can be.They have been adding to their home for about 3.5 years and I do n't know if they will ever finish. New kitchen, new pool, new decks, new bedroom for the 2 older boys. It never ends. About the time they finish they will probably want to move. Brad is still in Arizona, single, and working at Ruby Tuesday's re struant. He is just coming off knee surgery and doing fine. He has a very large dog named TAZZ and he is a Rottwhilier. TAZZ is one of the most jentle dogs I have ever seen. We dont see Brad as much as we would like but I know that is also a situation a l ot of you know as well. Kelly and Madison are doing just fine too. Madison is getting so big and is a beautiful as her mother. They live real close to us which we love as the situation is still a little hard on the 2 of them. All of our grandchildren a re quite happy and we really wonder when they will all be coming out of their shells. Well I am closing for now and look forward to seeing a lot of you in Maryland. Stevensons in Stockton California (for now!)

Hello from Star and Jennifer Stevenson!! Wow it is amazing how much this site has taken off! Jennifer and I just got another(much faster)computer, so I should be checking in more often...Unfortunately, I am really busy with graduate school. I just finished my first clinical rotation at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis California (a lot of wound care, amputations, diabetic feet and post surgical care) The real reason I wrote was to brag about Jennifer getting accepted to the Vet. Medical School at Davis! Dr. Ogne-Stevenson will be the class of 2003! We were really afraid that she might have to go to school out of state, but she got her first choice and we won't have to live apart for any lenght of time. Stockton and Davis Ca. are only an hour apart, so we will probably live somewhere in the middle! I don't feel bad for all you Michagan State fans, Stanford and UCLA did much worse so quit complaining!! Scott here, I was over at Tony's site and found a link to this review of his latest album: Awesome!! Spellbound by Greatness It might be a sister, a friend or maybe even a cousin, but someone has a copy of a release worthy of placement in a time capsule. The band was MCC, and the record a self-titled effort on Walt Disney Records in 1993. It began the recording careers of TONY LUCCA and 'N SYNC's JC Chasez. Ravaging through the closets and Disney stores across America, it is still possible to find this spark that started it all. Flash forward to 1999. TONY LUCCA is on his own for time with the release of Strong Words, Softly Spoken. Pulling influences from popular, blues and western genres, Keri Russell's real-life Prince Charming shares his deepest thoughts and emotions in a passionate and pleasing way. Having grown up as part of the all-star "Mickey Mouse Club," Lucca has carved his own niche in a market saturated with sound-alike beats from Swedish producers. Because he penned his own melodies, the lyrics speak with class and sincerity virtually void in today's standard ballads. The poppish, romanticized "Honestly For You" takes listeners for a ride with uplifting lyrics and soothing stylings performed by the one and only Lucca. Hello from the new family of 5!

Hi everyone! Thanks for all ther great letters (and phone calls) last week on the birth of new baby Michael! He's a great baby, and the girls cannot get enough of him! He looks just like his Daddy, too. They have the same hairline! Isn't it amazing how having a child with someone-I mean literally- giving birth with the help of the one that you love-makes everything come into focus, and seem so wonderful again. It's so hard to put into words, but I saw a side of Michael (Big Mike) that I always knew was there, but it's saved for special occasions! He is sooooo great! I'm so glad that he waited so long to find me. I only wanted to share this with all of you because I think everyone thinks of Mike as the funny guy. Well, he sure is fun to have around, but he is also the most wonderful, giving person that I've ever met. Anyway. (Are these just postpartum hormones raging, or what?) We got a little bad news today also. My nephew, Kyle who lives in Cincinnati, has double bacterial pneumonia. He's almost 7, and he's in Children's Hospital down there, and he's not getting any better. He's on 3 different antibiotics, and needs oxygen at night. His parents are recently divorced, but working well together to stay by his side. Can the power of this wonderful family send some thoughts and prayers his way? Thanks everyone. We love you all! As I began to write this letter the computer did a very strange thing. It forced me to use the new text editer to write this letter. It works great. This must be very brief. Some Revisions Done To the Site!

Hello Folks! , Wow, empty letter eh? Well don't fret just click on the letter 1 archive link up above and you shall see the original letters! The amount of letters was getting too big so I've started an archive. I'm going to automate the archive process soon enough but for now I've just done it by hand. I've made some changes (again) to the letter submission process....now when you submit your preview letter to the BIG LETTER you get a little status report of what the web-site is doing with your letter. This alleviates that wondering...of whether or not everything went right with your submission of the letter. I've also begun to work on an automated system for displaying pictures. I'm beginning to amass a number of photos and it's a lot of work to make pages for them all so I should be able to work out a semi-automated program that will display pictures plus some information about the pictures. I'll keep everyone posted about that. Just out of curiousity...how is the new PREVIEW system for you folks....does that seem to help? In fact there are portable players (much like walkmans) for MP3 sound files that essentially allow you to download music off of the internet and take it with you.
