.htaccess Password Tool
This tool will provide the needed .htaccess file contents for password protecting a directory on the Sonic.net web servers and the requisite name and password pairs for its associated password file. For more information about password protection and .htaccess functionality in general, please see our Htaccess - Changing the web server's behavior FAQ.
Please note that .htaccess password protection only works for web purposes, not for FTP.
login name: This is your Sonic.net account name. This is used for the purpose of determining where your files will be located, and has no direct bearing on what names and passwords people will use to access your protected directory.
authname: The text provided here will be displayed in the pop-up window that prompts for authentication. If your desired authname contains a space (more than one word), please enclose it in double-quotes (") to prevent a Malformed Header error.
name & password: Put the names and corresponding passwords you would like for visitors to be able to access your protected directories with. Up to four names and passwords can be generated at a time. If you need additional name/password pairs, you can use this tool again.
