Mac OS 8 Internet Assistant Setup

  • Where username is used, put your own login name.
  • This text indicates something you type in.
  • This text indicates a button you select.

    0. Begin
    • Open your Hard Drive.
    • Open the Assistants folder.
    • Double click on the Internet Setup Assistant.
    1. Introduction
    • Select: Update
    • Read the Introduction.
    • Click once on the Right Arrow at the bottom right of the window.
    2. Internet Configuration
    • Select: Add Internet configuration
    • Click the Right Arrow button once.
    3. Configuration Name and Connection Type
    • Configuration Name: Sonic
    • If you are going to dial Sonic directly, select: Modem
      OR if you are going to access Sonic through a LAN, select: LAN
    • Click the Right Arrow button once.
    4. Modem Settings
    • Select the type of modem you are using,
      OR select the closest one to your brand and speed.
    • If your modem is connected to your modem port, select: Modem
    • Select: Tone
    • Click the Right Arrow button once.
    5. Configuration Information
    • Enter the telephone number you use to dial Sonic. If you aren't sure which number is local to you, ask your telephone service provider.

    • Enter your username with a .ppp extension: username.ppp
    • If you are the only person using the computer, you might want to type in your password.
      OR, If other people use the computer, don't enter your password and the program will prompt you for your password when you connect.
    • Click the Right Arrow button once.
    6. IP Address
    • Select: No
    • Click the Right Arrow button once.
    7. Domain Name Servers
    • For DNS Servers, enter:
      208.201.224.11
      208.201.224.33
      208.201.224.22

    • For Domain Name, enter: sonic.net
    • Now click the Right Arrow button once.
    8. Email Address and Password
    • Enter your Email address: username@sonic.net
    • If you are the only person using the computer, you might want to type in your password.
      OR, If other people use the computer, don't enter your password and the program will prompt you for your password when you connect.
    • Click the Right Arrow button once.
    9. Email Account and Host Computer
    • In the first field, enter: usernam@pop.sonic.net
    • In the second field, enter: mail.sonic.net
    • Now click the Right Arrow button once.
    10. Newsgroup Host Computer
    • Enter: news.sonic.net
    • Now click the Right Arrow button once.
    11. Conclusion
    • If you want to test your connection,
      leave the Connect when finished box checked.
    • Click on the Go Ahead button. You're all done!
