Netscape Navigator Personal Edition 2.0
for Windows 3.1x & 95

We remind you at this point that Sonic does not offer telephone or Email technical support for the software listed below. If you have problems installing, configuring, or using Netscape Navigator Personal Edition 2.0, please call Netscape Communications Corporation at (800) 889-2171. Additionally, the latest version of Netscape Navigator can be found at <http://home.netscape.com/comprod/mirror/client_download.html>.

This Setup Guide is for members who have already purchased Netscape Navigator Personal Edition 2.0 and intend to use it with Windows 3.1x or 95. This Setup Guide is not for members who have the shareware version of Netscape Navigator. If you have the shareware version, this guide will not help you. If you are a new member, please call Sonic Customer Support at (707) 522-1000 and request either a Windows 3.1x or Windows95 Startup Kit. Sonic Startup Kits include software that will help you dial-up and get connected to Sonic. Once connected you may than use your shareware version of Netscape Navigator.

A. Installation:

  1. Install Netscape Navigator. If you are not sure how to do this step please refer to the manual that came with your software.

B. Account Wizard Setup:

After you have successfully installed Netscape Navigator you need to run the Account Setup Wizard to properly configure it for Sonic. During this setup procedure you will be asked for the following information:
  1. For CHOOSING AN INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER choose I ALREADY HAVE A SERVICE PROVIDER.

  2. For NAME OF EASY ACCESS ICON type in <Sonic>. You may use both upper and lower case letters here.

  3. For YOUR FULL NAME type in your <First and Last name> (e.g., John Doe). You may use both upper and lower case letters here.

  4. For YOUR COMPANY type in <The name of the company you work for> (e.g., John Doe Corp.). This field can be left blank. You may use both upper and lower case letters here.

  5. For LOGIN NAME type in your <username> (e.g., johnd) and add a <.ppp> (e.g., johnd.ppp) to the end of it. Make sure to only use lower case letters here. If you are uncertain of what your username is, please call Sonic Customer Support at (707) 522-1000. Telephone technicians are available between the hours of 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm, Monday through Friday except holidays. Note: Telephone support operates on a call back basis with the response time varying dependent upon load.

  6. For PASSWORD type in your <password> (e.g., Tom123). Passwords are case sensitive so be sure to type in your password exactly as you chose it. In other words Tom123, tom123, and TOM123 are not the same password. For privacy reasons you may wish to leave this field blank. With this field blank, you will be asked to enter your password everytime you dial-up and connect to Sonic. If you are uncertain of what your password is, please call Sonic Customer Support at (707) 522-1000.

  7. You do not need a TTY window. Therefore, leave this box unchecked.

  8. For EMAIL LOGIN type in your <username> (e.g., johnd). Make sure that only your <username> is showing. Leaving the <.ppp> added to your username here will make receiving your Email impossible! Additionally, make sure to only use lower case letters here.

  9. For PASSWORD type in your <password> (e.g., Tom123). Passwords are case sensitive so be sure to type in your password exactly as you chose it. In other words Tom123, tom123, and TOM123 are not the same password. For privacy reasons you may wish to leave this field blank. With this field blank, you will be asked to enter your password everytime you check for new Email. Note: This is the same password as used above.

  10. For WHAT PHONE NUMBER DOES YOUR MODEM DIAL TO CONNECT WITH YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER? type in one of the modem numbers from the Modem Numbers Page: http://www.sonic.net/info/modems.shtml or call us at (707) 547-3400. Make sure to choose a phone number that is a local call for you. If you are uncertain of which phone number to use, please contact your local operator by dialing 0.

  11. For PRIMARY DNS SERVER type in <208.201.224.11>.

  12. For SECONDARY DNS SERVER type in <208.201.224.33>.

  13. For DOMAIN NAME type in <sonic.net>. Make sure to only use lower case letters here.

  14. For POP SERVER type in <pop.sonic.net>. Make sure to only use lower case letters here.

  15. For SMTP SERVER type in <mail.sonic.net>. Make sure to only use lower case letters here.

  16. For NNTP SERVER type in <news.sonic.net>. Make sure to only use lower case letters here.
