Set Up the TCP/IP Control Panel for Mac OS 9
This tutorial will show you how to set up the TCP/IP control panel so that your computer will be able to make a dialup connection.
- Click on the Apple menu, select "Control Panels," and then select the TCP/IP control panel.

- When the TCP/IP control panel opens up, click on the "File" menu and select "Configurations."

- In the Configurations window which appears, make sure that the "Default" configuration is highlighted, and press "Make Active." If you do not see a
"Default" configuration, use the "Duplicate..." button to duplicate an existing configuration, and name that new configuration "Default." When you are
finished, make sure that "Default" is selected, and press "Make Active."

- Now you need to make sure everything is unlocked in Administration mode. Click on the "Edit" menu and select "User Mode..."

- In the window which appears, please mark the circle labeled "Administration." Please DO NOT set up a password. Press "OK" to return
to the Remote Access control panel window.

- Back in the TCP/IP control panel, make sure that the padlock icons are unlocked. When you are through, back track through steps 4
and 5 above to get back to "basic" mode.

-
Next, you need to make sure that TCP/IP is active, and is set to be used only when needed. Click on the "Options" button in the lower-right-hand side of
the TCP/IP control Panel. In the window which appears,
- Set TCP/IP to "Active"
- Check the box labeled "Load only when needed"

- First, you should set TCP/IP back to the "basic" user mode. Click on the Edit menu again, choose "User Mode..." and then click "basic" and press OK
in the window which appears. The TCP/IP control panel should be set back to the basic configuration. Please use the following settings:
- "Connect via" should be set tot "PPP" or "PPP Slot 0" depending on what Apple computer you're running.
- "Configure" should be set to "Using PPP Server"
- Although you shouldn't need to do so, the "Name Server Addr" field can have the following two sets of numbers written on two separate lines:
- 208.201.224.11
- 208.201.224.33
- "Search Domains" should just be "sonic.net"

That's it, you're done! Close the TCP/IP window, and save the changes you have made. If you would like more information about this feature of Mac OS 9, click on the question mark in the lower-left-hand-corner of the TCP/IP window. Back to the Macintosh setup guides.
