Mac OS X:
OS 10.1.5 shown
Setting up Sonic.net email in Mail.app
- To begin setting up OS X's Mail.app as your mail client, first open the
Apple menu and select "System Preferences..."
- Once the System Preferences window loads, click on "Internet" to load
the
Internet Preferences.
- In the Internet Preferences window, click on the "email" tab, and set
the default mail
client to "Mail." Then close the window and open up the Application called
"Mail."
- In the mail program, click on the "Mail" menu, and select
"Preferences..."
- Under "Accounts" in the Preferences window, click on "Create Account" to
create a new mail account.
- The Account type is a "POP Account."
Decription is just that--a description. It would be a good idea to use your email address as a description.
Email address is your full Sonic.net email address.
Full Name is the name that will be appended to your email address when you send mail.
Host Name is the incoming mail server, which should be "pop.sonic.net"
Username is your sonic.net username.
Password should be your sonic.net password.
SMTP Host is "mail.sonic.net." Sonic.net does not use authentication when sending mail. Next, click on "Account Options."
- The account options screen is just that--optional. We suggest leaving
"use SSL" unchecked. If you are checking your mail from outside of our
network (if you are checking your
mail through another service provider) then you should use SSL.
Once you've entered the options you want, click "OK" and close the preferences window. Now, you can click on the "Get Mail" icon, and, provided you have mail on the server, Mail.app will download a copy of that mail to your computer.
