NT 4.0 Setup Guide

These screen shots are intended for reference only.
Windows NT is applied in many varied environments,
and network configuration may vary greatly from installation to installation.
Sonic will not support any issues related to other RAS configurations, or network applications.
If you have any questions whatsoever about the impact of configuring RAS in addition to any existing Network components,
please contact your Consultant or Network Administrator.
Instalation:
- Open 'My Computer' and double-click in Dial-Up Networking.
- Click on Install.
- You will to have your Windows NT 4.0 CD handy, the installation may
need it. If you don't have your CD with you, you will have to Cancel the
installation. Since the RAS drivers will be installed off of the CABs on
the CD, there is no way around this. If everything goes smoothly, it should
begin installing.
- If you have your modem installed, just select it from the list and hit OK.
Otherwise, you will need hit Install Modem, to set it up on the machine.
- If installing the modem, select the proper device and port settings, then
Continue.
- That's it! Just hit OK when it says that it has been successfully
installed and now you just need to setup a dialing connection for Sonic.net. You will have to restart your computer so that the new drivers
and devices can take effect. Make sure that you do this before continuing
with the setup.
Configuring:
- Go to the Control Panel, then open Network. Then click on the Services tab,
then double-click on Remote Access Service.
- Make sure that it is set to Dial out only, then hit OK here and then OK
on the Network window
- If you are asked to Restart, click Yes.
- Then go back to your My Computer folder and open Dial-Up Networking
(as shown in Installing 1).
You will be prompted to add an entry if none were found, just hit OK.
Enter Sonic for the entry name, then hit Next.
- Put in your local dialup number for Sonic.
- Click on the Server tab and set as follows:
- Then click on the TCP/IP Settings button and set as follows:
- Make sure that Security is set properly then hit OK. Everything should
now be set correctly and you can connect to the Internet!
Connecting:
- To connect, double-click the Dial-Up Networking and select the
Sonic.net phonebook entry and hit Dial.
- Make sure that you have your username all lowercase (including the .ppp)
and your password is case sensitive so type it in exactly how it is
on your Sonic documentation.
- Finally, your connected and all you need to do is hit OK and start
enjoying the benefits of the Internet.
