Dial-Up Networking setup for Windows95 and Windows98
- To make a new Dial-Up Networking connection in Windows95 or in Windows98,
double click on the My Computer icon (it is usually in the top,
right hand corner of your screen) and open the Dial-Up Networking folder.
- Double-click on Make New Connection.
- Change the name from "My Connection" to Sonic, and click on the
Next button. At this point, you may have to set up and configure
your modem, if that hasn't been done yet. Refer to your computer owner's
manual or to your computer manufacturer's technical support line for
this or any other hardware-related issue.
- Call your new connection "Sonic".
- You do not need to specify an area code, because you are not
making a long distance call, so leave the Area Code field blank. Enter
the telephone number appropriate for your area (if you don't know which
modem number to use, refer to the QUICK REFERENCE SHEET for a number appropriate to
your modem type and geographical area) Then click on the Next button.
- Click on Finish.
- Within the Dial-Up Networking window, right click on the Sonic icon,
and select Properties from the menu that pops up.
- Click on Server Types. This will appear as a button on older versions
of Windows95; in newer systems it will appear as a tab. In the Allowed
Network Protocols box, uncheck NetBEUI and IPX/SPX compatible; make
sure that TCP/IP is the only protocol with a check in it's box. Then
click on the TCP/IP Settings button.
- In the TCP/IP Settings window, click on the Specify name server
addresses radio button, enter the Primary and Secondary DNS addresses:
Primary DNS: 208.201.224.11
Secondary DNS: 208.201.224.33
Then click on OK until you get back to the Dial-Up
Networking window.
- In the Dial-Up Networking window, Double-click on the Sonic
icon. Make sure that your username is username.ppp" and enter your
password (remember that your password is case-sensitive!). Verify that the
phone numberis correct, and click on Connect to get connected!
- Happy Surfing ;-)
