  1. Getting to your account settings

In Outlook 2007, click on the "tools" menu and select "Account Settings..."

    Menu

      Accounts
    2. Your primary mail account settings are available here. Your "Incoming mail server (POP3) is pop.sonic.net, and your "Outgoing mail server (SMTP) is mail.sonic.net.

You can access more account settings by clicking the "More Settings..." button.

      Change
      1. Under the "General" tab, you can specify the name that appears on the previous menu's listing, as well as your organization name, and your reply email address.

        General
      2. Under the "Outgoing Server" tab, you can instruct Outlook 2007 to use authentication when sending email. When connecting through another service provider, you will want to have this checked. Otherwise it is unnecessary.

        Outgoing
      3. Under the "Connection" tab you can specify how Outlook 2007 will connect to the internet. The most flexible and generally applicable setting is "Connect using Internet Explorer's or a 3rd party dialer," in which case Outlook 2007 will simply use whatever connection is available.

        Connection
      4. Under the "Advanced" tab, you can control the port and encryption settings for your account. Sonic.net recommends setting your mail servers to use a secure connection (SSL). The Incoming server (POP3) port number with SSL enabled is 995. The Outgoing Server (SMTP) port number with SSL enabled is 465.

You can also set Outlook 2007 to retain your messages on our server for a number of days even after you have retreived them. This is normally not necessary or even desirable, but in some circumstances (especially if you check your mail from multiple computers) this may be exactly what you will want to do.
