  1. Getting to your Mail Account Settings

    Mail Account settings can be located in Windows Mail by opening the Tools menu and selecting "Accounts."

    To view or change your Mail Account settings, select "imap.sonic.net" and click on the button labeled "Properties."

  3. General Properties

    Your general settings include your name, your organization name (if any), and your reply email address. Here you can also select whether this account will be included in a general "send and receive" action.

  4. Server Properties

    Your server settings include the incoming mail server name (imap.sonic.net), outgoing mail server name (mail.sonic.net), account name, and password.

    • By default, Windows Mail will use the same login name and password for outgoing mail as for incoming mail. You can change this by clicking the "Settings" button.

  5. Connection Properties

    You can specify a single connection for Windows Mail to use. This is not necessary.

    The default Security settings can be changed as you please. These options can be used for encryption and message signing.

    The outgoing mail (SMTP) server operates on port 587. The incoming mail (IMAP) server operates on port 993. Sonic.net recommends the use of secure connections. Here you can optionally leave messages on the server.

  8. IMAP Properties

    In order to share folders other than your Inbox, the following should be specified under the IMAP tab:

    • Set "Root folder path" to "INBOX." in uppercase with a trailing period.
    • Check the box labeled "Store special folders on IMAP server."
    • Set "Sent Items path" to "Sent"
    • Set "Drafts path" to "Drafts"
    • Set "Deleted Items path" to "Trash"
    • Set "Junk path" to "Junk"
