Antiweb Questionnaire Candidate - Mr. Jack Beslanwitch
What hardware do you use in HTML production?
DX4/100 with 20 megs of memory running a dual boot with 95 and Windows NT 3.51
What speed connection do you generally work via? What do you use to write HTML?
Word 7.0 or Notepad both as text editors
Why?
Never found a need for or found a HTML editor that worked that well,
although everybody keepts telling me Hot Dog is pretty good
What graphics programs do you use?
Add Depth, Paint Shop Pro, Lview and very occasionally Corel Paint. I will
be using MSD's Spirit II 3-d rendering and raytracing package if they ever
get my order to me
Why?
I use these to create and/or convert from one graphic format to another or
in the case of Paint Shop I have my Microtek IIsp flatbed scanner tied to it
and do my spans from it and begin fiddling with them immediately.
What audio programs do you use?
Just the sound recorder that comes with Windows 95. If someone else has a
not too expensive alternative that allows longer recording time I'm all ears.
Why?
Although I haven't used any recordings as yet, I'm toying with using sound
in my pages. Although, I vow not to use BGSOUND except to tweek Microsoft
Explorer as a prank.
What digital video programs to use use?
None, but I'm keeping my feelers out for what's new and inexpensive in
videonics.
Why?What tools are you thinking of using?
Just the graphic tools alluded to above. In particular Lview to create
transparent GIFs
Why?What conversion tools do you rely on heavily?
Paint Shop Pro to convert .wmf files created in Add Depth to .gifs
Why?What platforms do you design for? Why?
I would like the widest audience. I do Netscape 2.0 pages, but I make sure
they look at least acceptable in Lynx if I can. I'm unable to check how
they look on Macs or X-windows, but I cross my fingers and hope.
What screen width do you design for?
All, but I have fallen into the trap of doing 600 x 800 and not checking it
in smaller resolutions and getting in trouble. Luckily I finally figured
out I can switch resolutions on the fly in 95, so I can check to all three
screen widths in a matter of minutes without rebooting each time.
Why?
It should be viewable in all resolutions if possible.
What level of bandwidth do you usually aim to cater to?Why?
This is the minimum. About the largest graphic I have on one of my pages is 56k
What resources have been most useful to you in regards to:
HTML
any text editor but usually Word 7.0 as text editors
Why?
Graphics
Add Depth for Logos, Paint Shop Pro for fiddling with the graphics and Lview
is indispensable for creating transparent graphics
Audio
Sound Recorder but I'd like something better
Video
Cgi-bin Scripting
PERL will be what I use when I finally learn how to do it, although live
script might preclude a lot of CGI actions altogether.
Design
My instincts for what works visually and otherwise. Nothing more specific
than that.
