January 2005 Power Upgrade

January 11, 2005

PG&E technicians upgraded the transformer servicing the Sonic.net headquarters from 150KVA to 1000KVA and quadrupled the number of conductors feeding our facilities.

A rented generator powered the building for 13 hours while PG&E had the power off. This generator was backed up by our permanent on-site generator, standing by to keep vital systems powered up.

Peterson Power Systems performed routine maintenance on Sonic.net's 750KW, 1024 horsepower Detroit Diesel backup generator. During this maintenance period, the rented generator stood by in case of utility failure.

The upgrade and maintenance went as-scheduled with no service interruptions for Sonic.net services. The upgrade will help ensure that the Sonic.net colocation facilities and network can grow for years to come.
