HELP
UPHOLD THE COUNTY GENERAL PLAN AND PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS, QUALITY OF LIFE
AND PROPERTY VALUES!
THE
COUNTY GENERAL PLAN
exists to guide development in the county as the citizens’ desire, to conserve
our natural resources and preserve the unique, natural beauty that is
Sonoma County. It DOES NOT exist to be manipulated, disregarded
or compromised each time a developer or special interest group wants to
exploit the resources of our county for financial or personal gain at the
expense of the rest ofits citizens.
CURRENTLY, Native
American groups in Sonoma County, empowered by Proposition 1A and financed
byOut-of-State syndicates are
planning to construct casinos and residential developments that are not
consistent with the Sonoma County General Plan.Some
such developments are being designed with open disregard to the environment,
neighbors’ rights and the General Plan.
CASE
IN POINT:
The
Lytton Band of Pomo Indians, backed
by a wealthy group of Philadelphia investors, have secretly been planning
a non-compliant residential and tribal development on a 50-acre parcel
near Windsor they wish to purchase that contains one of the last Oak
Forests in Sonoma County. That development calls for the construction
of 50 to 97 homes, an office building, a ceremonial building, water well
field and an on-site sewage treatment plant on land that is zoned for only
10 houses and has severe limitations for septic disposal.Construction
of an on-site sewage plant on this site will result in effluent discharge
across adjacent private properties into local creeks and eventually
the Russian River.Such
a development will destroy existing wetlands, native plant species and
wildlife habitat, unique to Sonoma County.This
project will also decrease the value of nearby homes and properties.The
Lyttons have advised the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Sonoma County
Board of Supervisors that they want this site to be made “tribal lands”
and create a “sovereign nation” because they cannot develop this parcel
as they desire, under the established rules and regulations of the Sonoma
County General Plan -- The same rules and regulations that all citizens
of Sonoma County abide by. We have no objections to the Lytton Pomos moving
to West Windsor as long as the development is compliant with Sonoma County’s
General Plan.In fact, if they comply,
we will be the first to welcome them.
The
Lyttons’ attorney has stated in the press that if they do not get State
approval for Las Vegas-style gambling at its San Pablo location, they will
look for another Casino Location in Sonoma County Along the 101 Corridor.
WHAT
YOU CAN DO:
The
Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has before them a Resolution which states
that they will use whatever means possible, legal and/or regulatory, to
oppose any action ofthe Federal Government
taking into trust ANY NEW TRIBAL LAND acquisitions in the county
that do not abide by the regulations set forth in the County’sGeneral
Plan.
