HOMEWORK DETAIL

LESSON #7 - COVER LETTER OR PROMOTIONAL FLYER
Instructions
Depending on whether you are seeking employment or seeking freelance work, you will develop your cover letter, or advertising flier as a web page. Upload this page to your homework site. Link that page to your homework page. Label the link "Cover Letter" or "Promotional Flyer" depending on which career track you have chosen. The details of these assignments are listed below.

NOTE: These 2 documents are NOT a part of your portfolio, and should NEVER be displayed there. They are separate 'ink on paper' or digital items.

The Cover Letter might possibly be in email form to be sent before you send your ASCII Text or PDF resume to someone you have spoken with previously. It could also be on paper and would be combined with your paper resume when sending it or handing it to an interviewer.

The Advertising Flier is either a printed document to be sent out in the mail, handed out in person, posted on bulletin boards, or possibly a PDF version to be attached and emailed individually or as a mass mailing to promote you and your skills.

Instructions for Students Seeking Employment
Design, create, and upload to your Homework page one example of a Cover Letter which would be appropriate for a specific employer, regarding the job you are targeting for this class. Label the link "Cover Letter".

If you're a good writer you may not need any help. Just go for it! Most of you, though, will want to use the Resource section of the class notes to view samples and read suggestions of "Do's" and "Don'ts" offered by various authors, editors and publishers on the Web. These should get you started:

Instructions for Students Seeking Freelance Work
Design, create, and upload to your Homework page one example of an Advertising Flier which would be appropriate to introduce your services to the public, or to a target audience for a mailing. The format/layout is up to you, but the Web page must print on one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. Label the link "Promotional Flyer".

1. You can format it as a "flyer", designed primarily to grab people's attention and offer a little information
2. You can design it as a letter to a specific prospective client
3. You can design it as a mass-mailer, providing relevant information...and enticing offers
