ginger ale   Notes:   This is a non-alcoholic, pale amber, carbonated drink.  It's used in various cocktails.  To make your own:  See the Homemade Ginger Ale Recipe on RecipeSource.com. Substitutes:  ginger beer (stronger flavor) OR club soda (no sugar or flavoring) OR tonic water OR sparkling wine

seltzer water

 

soda water = club soda = seltzer water = carbonated water

sparkling mineral water  

tonic water = quinine water  Substitutes:   ginger ale (This has a ginger flavor while tonic water has a fruity flavor) OR lemon-lime soda

water  Substitutes:   (in making bread) milk (makes texture softer and crust darker; scald and cool first to improve volume)
