New Virus Strain Identified by Local Consulting Firm
18 Jul 2006 While troubleshooting a computer slowness issue, Bo Lechnowsky of RespecTech, Inc. discovered a strange process consuming excessive operating system resources. Bo then conducted routine web research to see if he could determine what it was, but the search provided inconclusive information regarding this strange process.
15 leading antivirus programs were used to check the process file, but they all stated the file was not infected. Bo knew this was not the case, so he submitted the file along with a description of the symptoms to Grisoft, a leading antivirus company and maker of AVG antivirus, a product which RespecTech, Inc. is an authorized distributor of. AVG Tech Support responded with the following email:
Thank you for your e-mail.
The file was analyzed and identified by our virus specialists as an undetected
version of Sdbot virus. Its detection will be added to one of the further Virus Base updates.
Thank you for your kind co-operation.
Best regards,
