Agency for Sustainable Systems in Science and Technology

GRANT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The following guidelines have been developed as the starting point for developing a project proposal idea, the first step in obtaining grants. Before approaching our (collective) agency for assistance, we ask that you have covered the following questions and areas as best as possible.

1. What is your project idea?

  • Give a clear, concise statement of your idea.
  • What is the history of this idea?
  • Have you had a personal experience that has prompted your interest with this subject?

    2. What is the purpose.

  • Who will benefit?
  • What do you hope to gain from doing this project?
  • Why are you the person to implement it?
  • What interest would a donor have in providing funding?
  • Has this project been done before?
  • Are there other parties already involved in this or a similar project from whom you can benefit or assist?
  • How will the impact of this project be measured?
  • What will be lost if the project is not done?

    3. How do you plan to approach this project?

  • What do you plan to do?
  • What activities do you hope to accomplish?
  • Who or what do you propose to effect?
  • What is the social/environmental/cultural/scientific/educational effects of this project?
  • Does your project include a technology, a method, a new theoretical approach, will it include pure research, scientific/laboratory research, surveys, field tests, etc.?
  • Was there a specific occurrence that prompted you in this interest?

    Some tips

  • Record your ideas
  • Brainstorm (Say anything that comes to mind, find a tape recorder record a discussion with yourself on the topic, find a friend to bounce your ideas off. No idea is too outlandish)
  • File ideas logically
  • Review, expand, and reorganize (combine - refocus) ideas
  • Be very specific
  • Review the idea
  • A solid two page synopsis will suffice. And if it makes sense, we have a great start!
