To tell the truth, I honestly don't know when I first heard about No Doubt, or who I heard of them from. It was either one of my best friends, Josh, or my ex-girlfriend, Kori. Maybe both. But anyway, I don't remember a whole lot about how I first got into them, but I do remember the first CD I got being Tragic Kingdom. Josh later showed me a live video of them performing that CD, and Kori told me which of the other ones were good. I didn't agree on all of them (The Beacon Street Collection isn't my favorite of them all), but I still really liked them.

I'm not totally sure why I like them. I just like their style, I guess. Sort of punkish ska. "I saw a documentary on them which said that a lot of their grunge and harder sound came from their guitarist, who had been in a hard rock band before No Doubt. The difference is actually pretty noticable if you listen to their self-titled CD and then Tragic Kingdom. They were practically a different band, but still fun.

I never was totally obsessed with ska, but I do like a lot of their stuff. Their first CD, believe it or not, is my favorite, and Tragic Kingdom my second favorite. Return of Saturn was pretty good, but started to show that they're changing. I like what I hear in the changes, though.

Now their sound is changing, too. They're getting more electronic, which is fine by me (I like Techno and electronic stuff). I've made some electronic songs using a program Ashley had on the computer, and I always went for this one sound. I've told people I like techno, but don't care for some of the stuff they then played for me. I've always tried to describe this one sound I really liked in Techno, but had difficulty in doing so. I was able to finally describe it once No Doubt came out with the song "Hella Good." I simply love grunge mixed with electronic sound , and that song perfectly matched the sound I had always wanted to achieve.

It's kind of fun to listen and try to figure out exactly how many different Gwen's are singing in there. They overdub her voice a lot, but almost never the other band members. Pity. It'd be good to hear from the rest of them every now and then, but then again, in a lot of bands they just stick to the one singer. They had a million problems (band member comitting suicide, inter-band relationships, etc.) but they're thankfully still together.
