BLACK DAYS

By

John A. Bird

Black days ahead

The drum beat of war

Rumbles from the TV

A war for oil

Smoke hides the sun

While darkness covers the earth

Tyrants rule through fear

Feeding off each other

Promising freedom to the world

While curtailing it at home

Working their evil

In the ever growing shadows

And darkness spreads

Feeding on fear and hatred

Preaching intolerance

Serving its masters' greed

But they are deceived

For darkness is the master they serve

Yet in the darkness

Pockets of light emerge

The light of compassion

The light of truth and love

Beacons of humanity

Scattered across the landscape

Shadows shroud the light

Trying to smother it

But in the growing darkness

The light is accentuated

And try as it might

Darkness cannot quell the light

You are the light

It radiates within you

Reach within yourself

Feel the power and the warmth

Let it flow from you

To light the path of mankind
