Details: This special concert was seen live worldwide, and the band responds with a very good showing. The set was somewhat shortened (probably to accommodate the broadcast) and some mysterious backing vocals can be heard in a number of songs, indicating that the group wanted this to be an especially polished performance. This was the last show of the year and there are a number of highlights—Townshend plays some excellent solos during ‘The Quiet One,’ ‘Another Tricky Day’ (fantastic version), and ‘Who Are You’ and his playing seems more cohesive than at any other show of the year. After an interesting ‘My Generation’ (again introduced with a drum beat), an apparent broken string forces Townshend to switch guitars in 'Won’t Get Fooled Again.' The encore includes ‘Twist and Shout,’ which becomes a real mess when they try the traditional Beatles ending (a problem they’ll continue to have). 'See Me, Feel Me' is then resurrected for the second straight show and they have more problems ending—Townshend keeps playing when the others are trying to finish. Nevertheless, the band rewards the huge TV audience with a sound performance, one of the best of the year.
Townshend has been actively and intensively taking care of the new development in English rock music in recent years, and still sees The Who as a group that can still give exciting concerts. The England tour showed that also, where The Who has been playing since early 1981. A large part of their repertoire comes from new songs; the on-stage performance doesn´t have much in common with typical superstar behavior. That´s not without planning. To that, Townshend says: ""As a rock band, we are on tour in 1981 because we want to play to an audience that has fun with good rock´n´roll.""

""At the occasion of a rehearsal in the London Rainbow, Peter met Pete Townshend. A long discussion developed, during which it came out that Townshend had seen the live airing of the last Rocknacht, with Graham Parker, The Police and Jack Bruce on English TV. For him, that was the only possibility to go on TV: Only live. Peter was impressed in the discussion by Townshend´s concentration. He listened very carefully and wanted to know everything in exact detail. They noticed that right away in Essen. One always had the feeling that he had a large interest in learning something new, and to exchange himself with others, which stood in contrast to his to his position as the central man of a rock institution. - Christian visited some concerts of the English tour and came to the conclusion that The Who ´81 was a completely normal rock band that had good and bad days. When you watch a complete concert from this group, it soon becomes clear on how few single details a myth can be built upon. No way did they constantly do sommersaults and throw around the microphone.""

5/28/1988 Willie Nelson Austin Opera House Austin, Tx CD 1 disc
The Austin Opera House, Austin, TX May 28, 1988--this is a very
sweet sounding FM broadcast of something called Willie Nelson's Lone
Star Saturday Night. What makes this one unique is that the band is not
the usual Willie Family Band. This is a Texas Swing lineup, including
such luminaries as Johnny Gimble, Buddy Emmons, Johnny Bush, et al., and
they are primarily playing Texas swing tunes, NOT the usual Willie
stuff.

2/27/1997 Willie Nelson Charlie's Bar Paia, Hawaii CD 1 disc This is a superb quality soundboard
of a very, very loose Willie playing solo in front of what sounds like a
tiny bar in Hawaii. Here he plays the usual stuff, but it is just him,
except when he pulls a couple of people up from the crowd on a few
songs. This Willie at his most informal, which is pretty cool, given
that Willie is already pretty informal all of the time.

NEIL YOUNG: A PERFECT ECHO
This is a compilation of soundboard recordings from 1967-2001. The term soundboard is a bit of a misnomer. By soundboard I mean, basically, not an audience recording. Some are true soundboards, while others are FM, TV, ALD, or video-sourced recordings. The recordings were all taken from cdrs or videos that are circulating in the trading community.

7/18/2002 Camper Van Beethovan Knitting Factory New York, New York cd 2 discs
Proof that irony hasn't exactly croaked might have been seen at Camper Van Beethoven's packed three-night stand at the Knitting Factory last weekend. After baffling and infuriating So-Cal punkers who wanted their music and humor scurrilous and not desert-dry, the Campers enchanted scribes and college radio with '80s antics in which David Lowery's droll drawl combined with the band's odd cross-culturalisms. Sadly, while the former hit home with every postmodern smarty from Pavement to Quasi, the latter became the terrain of dinosaur-rock sourpusses (and the occasional wondrous goofball like Tom Ze or Manu Chao). After Lowery dented MTV indieland with his relatively straightforward Cracker, he indulged Camper songs and personnel for live shows. Not much of a stretch, then, to have a recent Camper rarities comp and now, the long-planned cover of Fleetwood Mac's Tusk album (which different Campers claim they either love, hate, or don't know).
Rejoined with violinist Jonathan Segel, bassist Victor Krummenacher, and guitarist Greg Lisher, plus a few Crackers, the Camper clan revisited their back catalog without much stage flair or instrumental finesse. But Camper was always more about attitude—an arty bar band cum knee-slapping alt-country band cum Gypsy bar mitzvah band. Friday's show leaned more heavily on the metallic crunch of their major-label years (""Pictures of Matchstick Men"") than the still hilarious tunes of their lovably sloppy indie years (""Take the Skinheads Bowling""). If their ""Oh Death"" wasn't as stirring as Ralph Stanley's, their ""Tusk"" (featuring feedback, computers, chanting, poetry reading) would make an obsessive studio rat like Lindsay Buckingham proud. With the bonus that their lyrics are even funnier than their stage banter, the retooled Camper is as legit as Wire's and Mission of Burma's worthy reunions. Could ""the Who"" claim such a thing? —Jason Gross

"Gig played on Fri 29 Nov 2002
Venue : Royal Albert Hall, London
As 5,000 fans settle into their expensive seats, George Harrison's old Rickenbacker guitar sits alone onstage beneath a picture of the former 'quiet' Beatle, who went on to seek enlightenment and happiness away from the spotlight.

The first half of the show - 12 months since his death - features the Indian music George loved so much, courtesy of Ravi Shankar's daughter Anoushka, who plays tonight's specially written piece, 'Ape' (pronounced Arpa, meaning to give), and is simply breathtaking. Monty Python's Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Neil Innes then change the mood somewhat with 'Sit On My Face', before leaving bare arsed beneath their waiters' aprons as Michael Palin begins a comedy tribute that breaks off for the legendary 'Lumberjack Song'.
Still reeling from that surreal spectacle, Jeff Lynne joins Eric and the house band for a stomping, spell-binding 'I Want To Tell You' from 'Revolver' and then, while we're still trying to decide if George's son Dhani could possibly look anymore like his dad up there playing guitar, they spin out the sparkling opening salvo of 'If I Needed Someone'. Magnificent. 'Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)' - featuring more bottlenecks than the M6 - and then Joe Brown, George's Best Man, joins us for a sweet version of the 'Abbey Road' classic, 'Here Comes The Sun'.
Next up, Tom Petty counts in the intro to 'Revolver''s famous 'Taxman'. It's a measure of George's skill and originality as a guitarist that Heartbreaker Mike Campbell comes nowhere near the controlled chaos of the original solo. Tom delves back in time to the 'Help!' set for 'I Need You' and then it's full on Travelling Wilburys for the single 'Handle With Care'.
Billy Preston takes over on organ for Clapton's 'Isn't It A Pity', but, by now, we're getting restless for some more ex- Beatles, so Eric introduces ""a man who loved George very much"" and on comes Ringo to a standing ovation, all little legs and red velvet jacket. He thanks us for coming, stays clear of the drums and treats us to a version of the poignant 1973 Starr/Harrison hit 'Photograph' - ""now all I have is a photograph to remind me..."" - before reprising the Carl Perkins' classic 'Honey Don't' which he sang on 'Beatles For Sale' thirty eight years ago.
As if it couldn't get anymore awe-inspiring, Ringo then announces: ""I'd like to introduce you to someone else who George loved very much... Mr Paul McCartney."" We're all on our feet now as a sombrely dressed Paul acknowledges the cheers and leads the band (Ringo now on drums) in 'For You Blue' from 'Let It Be' - a thrilling moment for any Beatles fan. But Paul knows how to lighten the mood. He picks up a ukulele and tells us, ""Sometimes we'd go round to George's for dinner and after, the ukes would come out. The last time I was there I said 'I've got one for you George' and it goes like this."" Macca strums away in true George Formby style before singing the opening verse of 'Something' and the crowd cracks up. The band joins in quietly with this weird, comedy version of a true classic, but then we hit the guitar break and it's full on, original arrangement, as our hearts stop and that famous slide guitar soars up into the Gods. A spine-tingling moment.
'All Things Must Pass' is a perfect summation of tonight's celebration and a thirty two year old declaration of George's philosophy, played by his mates and his doppelganger son. Lump in the throat time for sure. And where do you go from here? Well, what about Macca at the piano and Ringo on drums for a towering 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', complete with a Clapton solo that must rank among his finest onstage moments - ever. So emotionally drained by now is the crowd that we need a release - to stand, stomp and sing along - so here comes 'My Sweet Lord' - possibly the only time 5,000 well-heeled music fans will ever be heard singing ""Hare Krishna, Hare Hare"" on the chorus. Then, after a short 'thank you' from Dhani, Joe Brown closes the night with one of George's favourite songs, the sweet and touching 'I'll See You In My Dreams', as a shower of petals falls gently from the ceiling.
Put this one down as one of those events that you really do feel privileged to have attended. George Harrison's music, his beliefs, his life, made him a one- off and that's exactly what this gig was.

Greetings Metalheads .... very glad to write you with some news, as things have been going great ... night after night, the audiences are leaving exhausted, after they have witnessed quite a few hours of Metal. One thing about this tour that I feel is great ... we have all kinds of different bands on the bill and there is much comradery among us. It is important that we all unite once again and support this great kind of music ... You are all great and thank you for your support ... Halford's been pulling out some killer rare tracks that blew a few minds I must say, even stuff from Rob's first professional release Rocka-Rolla, now that's something ... I'll have more news for you in some time. Keep The Faith and see you soon when we play your town, get ready as this tour is seriously bruising the US, I mean that!!!

Bible Heroes share addiction to love, pain
Neva Chonin, Chronicle Pop Music Critic, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE Monday, April 14, 2003
Fable has it that Future Bible Heroes began when Magnetic Fields singer-songwriter Stephin Merritt met DJ-keyboardist Chris Ewen on a miniature golf course. If it's not true, it should be: Picturing Merritt playing miniature golf is almost as exquisite as imagining him crooning a love song to his Chihuahua, Irving, which in fact happened, once upon a time, at a Magnetic Fields concert in San Francisco.
Future Bible Heroes' Friday show at Bimbo's had neither miniature golf nor Irving, but it did conclude with the wondrous sight of Merritt laughing. Having spent the better part of the band's 70-minute set stuffing Nutter Butter cookies and other confections into his mouth, Merritt concluded the evening by handing out his remaining treats like a feudal lord doling out favors. In all respects, a sweet moment.
The beauty of Merritt's songs, whether performed by the Fields, the Heroes or his other side project, the 6ths, is that underneath the sardonic couplets beats the heart of a romantic fool with a sweet tooth for agony. Steeped in classic pop and arch sentimentality, songs such as ""Good Thing I Don't Have Any Feelings"" and ""I'm Lonely (and I Love It"") -- both of which he delivered alone, with ukulele, on Friday -- are as sincere as they are funny. They're anthems for rejects who disdain acceptance even as they long for it; smart enough to know they shouldn't care, they care anyway because they've discovered that romantic pain can be as addictive as crack.

A great evening with Lucinda! She started a bit nervous, crowd reaction
was mixed in the beginning because of the time they had to wait. But with the
beautiful songs she won the audience over to her magic as
singer/songwriter, performer (and as a woman :-))
The band is also far above average...

6/16/2003 Patti Smith Great American Music Hall San Francisco, CA cd 2 discs
http://www.kaapeli.fi/aiu/ps/
In 1996, after seeing Patti Smith perform at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, Michael Stipe declared that it was not only one of his top ten favorite concerts, but also among his favorite ""life experiences."" At the time, when Ms. Smith was just returning to concert stages, it still seemed like a statement that reeked of hyperbole. Now, however, after three albums and seven years in which she has been able to grow and refine her formidable skills, Patti Smith seems to be at the mature peak of her artistic powers. And Smith's three show stand in San Francisco last week, makes Stipe's original assessment completely accurate. In fact, Smith's show Monday night at The Great American Music Hall reached such lofty heights, it easily ranks as one of the greatest rock shows this writer has ever witnessed.

But even for Ms. Smith, reaching that rarefied level of performance seems to have happened almost by chance, as a fortuitous series of events seems to almost mystically have come into alignment, (including a full moon), which allowed Smith to channel her shaman-like energies into perfect focus for one memorable evening. Among the chief factors, was the simple fact that Smith had been so enthused by the warm reception she received the day before, at her free anti-war concert in Berkeley, and was in great spirits throughout the entire evening (in glaring contrast to her Fillmore show, where some inner demons seemed to be periodically disturbing her concentration). No doubt, Smith's visit to City Lights bookstore earlier in the day, which was in the midst of celebrating it's 50th Anniversary, was also helpful, as she seemed to be receiving energy from the Beat poets all evening, until it actually burst out physically when she recited Allen Ginsberg's ""Footnote to Howl"" as a lead-in to a soaring version of ""Rock 'n' Roll Nigger.""
