After buying a Phillips TiVo unit, I found I wanted to hook it up such
that I could use it in a way not otherwise described in the
documentation. I thought I might share what I have found with the
internet.
Specifically, I wanted to be able to
exchange recordings between my VCR and TiVo:
watch a VCR tape through the TiVo for it's superior replay
features (possibly recording it for future viewing or not),
save to tape a TiVo recording,
record on both devices simultaneously from my cable source if the
need arises,
always have stereo sound to play through my audio system no matter
what video source was playing
With this setup, TiVo knows of my non-box cable input and thinks I
have a satellite receiver with all but channel 100 disabled. That's
the VCR input to TiVo.
Other cool features I discovered with help with the web: The TiVo
remote controls the TV and audio power and the audio volume level and
mute, all very seamlessly.
