President Ross called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
The Pledge was led by Lori.
Brendan gave an invocation.
Hans led us in the Four Way Test.
Jennifer sent in a modified version of "If I Had A Hammer" as "If I Had A Gavel" in honor of Ross's disappearing gavel.
Hans gave a short joke. "Why didn't the skeleton cross the road? He didn't have any guts."
Visiting Rotarians: None.
Guests of Rotarians: None.
Correspondence: There was a proposed bylaws change for the selection of District Governors. After a bit of discussion, the unanimous verdict was a "no" vote.
We also had correspondence from two of the awardees of the Russian River Rotary Hospitality Scholarship that is administered by the SRJC. They thanked us for the financial leg up.
Announcements: 11/13 will be the Rotary dinner at Applewood to raise money for the El Molino Culinary Scholarships. Tickets are $55
Herman gave a debrief of the meeting of the Latino community at the Guerneville School. There were many guests, perhaps over 100. The Mexican Consul General was present to speak. Representatives from the DMV were there to talk about the new licensing requirements. Many other were there as well, including West County Heath Centers, Santa Rosa Junior College, El Molino High School, and the Sonoma County Sheriff Department.
The Crab Feed Kickoff meeting is 11/5 to get the main planning in motion. We need donations of red wine!
Happy Bucks: Lori was glad that the election season was at an end and gave $5 in relief. Ross pledged $5 as well. Congrats to her and Ross for the respective school board wins!
Fines: Ross fined himself $5 for having his name in the paper. Marty was fined $5 for a double win of the football pool, and a further $5 happy bucks. Jeff was fined $5 for the anniversary of his induction, Ross fined him an additional $5 since it was Mike DeProto's induction anniversary as well, but Mike wasn't there. Hopefully Jeff can get reimbursed! Herman J. was fined $5 for not having his "I voted" sticker. Since he's over his limit, he passed it on to Marty. He was fined another $10 for having his picture in the paper and passed that on as well.
Raffle: $27 was collected in the raffle. Hans had the winning ticket, but drew the eight of diamonds for no reward!
Program: Hans and Lori Vocational Talks. Lori began. She told us about her 13 years as a secretary at El Molino High School. She is currently running for the West County High School Board (and has since won)! She raised more campaign funds than she could use, so the balance will go to helping students through the Project Success program.
Lori was born in El Paso, TX, has lived in Kayesville, UT, Sacramento, San Francisco, Forestville, and Guerneville.
Hans took the podium next. Hans was born in Stockholm, Sweden, but moved to El Cerrito at the age of 3. They later moved out to Clayton. He made his was to San Francisco and a brief stint at SFSU. He met Lori around 1986. He got into property management, then sales, then lending. He now runs the Sebastopol branch of First Priority Financial. During his time in Forestville, he also opened a skate shop. He enjoys skateboarding, snowboarding, and going to concerts with his family.
Thought for the Day:Ross quoted Einstein, "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
