Acting President Jeff called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.
The Pledge was led by Jacob.
President Ross was in a Spring mood, so led us in Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah
Ross also told this week's joke
Visiting Rotarians: Barbara Bickford.
Guests of Rotarians: Chris (Jeff's brother), Erin Rickard, John McCarty(speaker).
Correspondence: Santa Rosa Junior College thanked us for our first of two $1,000 donations to the Rotary Leadership Room.
Announcements: Hans collapsed after running a half-marathon, but seems to be on the mend. We had a minute of quiet thought for his quick return.
Herman G. reminded us of the Stumptown Daze Parade on May 16th.
Ross reminded us to make our donations to Polio Plus either through the RI website or to Andy.
Donna gave a report of the dinner serving at the homeless shelter.
El Molino Interact is planning a beach cleanup in Jenner on Saturday 4/18.
The Fireworks BBQ committee will be meeting soon after the holiday weekend.
Happy Bucks: Brendan gave $5 for having an escrow close earlier in the day. Herman G. took on a new board position. He donated the final dollars to put him across the finish line to his $100 obligation. Jacob gave $2 El Molino receiving a grant from the Sisters.
Fines: Daniela was fined $1 for her work on the Grant Reception Committee. Knud was fined $1 for giving President Ross the evil eye for not buying a raffle ticket. Michael Nicholls was fined $2 for spying on Kim and Chuck in Maui from his condo in Molokai. He passed the fine on to Donna. Jacob was fined $2 for being late and $1 for not having his pin. Michael Rickard was fined $5 for Erin's birthday and another $2 for not remembering it! Ed was fined $3 for no pin or badge and a further $5 for being excessively late. That took him up to the $100 level though. Michael Torr was also fined $5 for being late.
Raffle: Knud had the winning ticket, but failed to draw a winning card from the deck.
Program: John McCarty was our speaker. He taught history at Mission High School for 30 years. He also taught at St. Mary's in Moraga. His family has been in San Francisco since 1870. He talked about his book, Memories That Linger. He also has a new book, Guerneyville (with the tourist pronunciation), coming. The told us the tale of his trip to the River in 1953. He told us of the Hacienda Bridge, stopping at Skippy's Roadhouse and the old Golf Course on the flats across the street (long overgrown). He described the amenities of Rio Nido near the lodge in those days. He told us some history of the dance halls and saloons that used to be in the area. He finished up by giving us a bit of the plot of his other two books. We just had time for a couple of questions from the audience and then it was time for the closing bell.
