Meeting Called to Order

Acting President Jeff called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m.
The Pledge was led by Michael Torr.
The Four-Way Test was led by Ed.
Chuck led us in singing,"Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

Visiting Rotarians: None.

Guests of Rotarians: Gayla (Lori's sister), Kyle Torr, Steve Henricksen (speaker).

Correspondence: None.

Announcements: Mike Nicholls and President Ross got together to send in our club points that have been accumulating for each member. When they are registered with RI, Michael will give us updated statements of our contributions and points.

Happy Bucks: Hans gave $10 for running a half marathon in 2:03. All were glad to see him back so soon and doing so well! Lori gave her last $11 in gratitude for all the help and well wishes she had while Hans was recovering. Andy gave a further $10 in happiness to have Hans back with us. Kim gave $50 in appreciation for (Sutter?) Hospice's help with her father. Michael Torr gave $10 for Gabriella's successful tonsil and adenoid removal ($5 per tonsil).

Fines: Donna, wielding her power as past president fined President Ross $5 for a sexist remark. Ross passed it on to Andy who was running a little light on fines! Hans was fined a buck for not having his pin. Mike Nicholls was fined $2 for the same offence.

Raffle: Our speaker, Steve, had the winning ticket, but missed the big prize by pulling a queen from the deck.

Program: Steve Henricksen from Precision Soundcraft was our speaker. His company covers many venues from Reno to Eureka to LA. He became interested in music in the early 60's. He went to see the Beach Boys on their first tour at the Santa Rosa Vet's Hall. He ran into them out back of the building and the autographed his album. He learned the guitar, but it never went anywhere (a severe lack of talent, as he called it). He started organizing dances during high school in Healdsburg. He booked local bands, one of which was the Golliwogs, who went on to become Creedence Clearwater Revival (he hooked them up with the person who recorded their demo record). He know Janis Joplin early on, although it took him a while to see her talent. At 15, he opened a night club in Santa Rosa for teenagers only. He graduated high school early in '67 and went to the Haight-Ashbury. He got into sound engineering and production. He went on to a two year school in Hollywood in entertainment. Soon after he was drafted, but beat the Army to the punch by enlisting so he could avoid the infantry. He ended up doing documentary films for the Army. After his service in '73 he started working in sound again. He moved to Eureka in '78 and opened a dance club. That lasted for 3 years until much of the local timber and fishing industry dried up. He moved back to LA and managed a restaurant for 2 years. He refers to the years '86 to 2000 as his "Dark Years", referring to his marriage. He was an oil company sales rep. and then became a political consultant in Sacramento. He even ran for office on the North Coast as a Republican. He was out raised $30K to $3 million, but still came within 10 point of his opponent. After that he got back to where we know him now and the owner of Precision Soundcraft where he handles the sound for our Rockin' the River concert series.

Thought for the Day: From Ross: "Our true nature is like the sky, not the clouds. Our true nature is like the ocean, not the waves. Clouds and waves come and go. The sky and the ocean remain." -Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi)

The Four Way Test

  3. Will it build good will and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
